Haiku

Postby Beaver » Sat Sep 26, 2015 2:44 pm

Isthmus is having a haiku contest.

http://www.isthmus.com/haiku

1. Choose a category from the 7 listed: Paul Soglin, Local Landmarks & Celebrities, Scott Walker, Critters, Wisconsin Passions (beer, Packers, cheese, etc.) Madison Music or Epic Systems.

2. Write a haiku. A haiku is a 3 line poem which must follow a 5-7-5 syllable count.

3. Submit your haiku to us using the form below. You must fill in all fields.

4. We'll read over all the haiku we receive and pick the top 3 across all categories.

5. If you're one of the top 3, you can win Isthmus Beer & Cheese tickets, concert tickets and other such things.

6. Write as many haiku as you like, but each haiku must have its own submission.

7. Deadline is Wednesday, October 7th.

8. Check to see if your haiku made it to print in our November 25th issue!

What happened to the haiku contest? The link no longer works.

I wanted to write
many Haikus for Isthmus,
sadly, no contest.

As I recall, classical haiku calls for a seasonal allusion, in addition to the syllabic construction.

So, well done!
