9/2 - Terminal Orchestra: experimental/classical/post-rock

Postby flanneljammies » Fri Aug 12, 2011 9:14 am

Friday, September 2 · 7:30pm - 11:00pm
The Project Lodge, 817 E. Johnson St

The Terminal Orchestra is from Marquette MI. (Yes, they are a real 10-piece orchestra with strings, drums and guitar.) They do contemporary classical/soundtrack/orchestral-post-rock similar to composers and performers such as:

- Nick Cave
- Warren Ellis/Dirty Three
- William Basinski
- Ennio Morricone
- Igor Stravinksky
- Rachels/Sonora Pine
- Low
- Mogwai/Rodan (the quieter bits)

They've currently been getting quite a bit of airplay on the NPR Echoes program. It's not classical music in the strictest sense nor is it post-rock, but it has cross-over appeal to open-minded classical, experimental, and indie rock fans.

Asumaya is Luke Bassuener's one-man live looping art/world/electronic extravaganza.

Presented by The Force Publique Music Collective and WORT 89.9 FM Community Radio.
