Saw somewhere online today that Milwaukee had a 73% turnout (of registered voters?) -- not up to Dane County standards (92%) but still pretty darn good considering the under-50% turnout of most of the voter-slackers in this country (though now I'm wondering what the national voter turnout was for this election?)

The county I'm disgusted with is Kewaunee -- your ground water's undrinkable but 60% of you still voted for Scott Walker and his "Chamber of Commerce" DNR? Sad. You deserve everything your CAFOs are dumping on you.

Evers was about 700 votes down according to the TV crawlers when I decided to go to bed. Heard on the radio at 12:40a that they were waiting for a batch of absentee ballots from Milwaukee to be counted, expected the tally to be announced around 1:00a, but I figured I had already had enough ups and downs for one evening, the morning newscast would be soon enough to find out what happened :D

I was watching the live updates online, and Evers was actually up by about 600 measly votes just before those ballots came in from Milwaukee County, so Evers may have won even without them, but there would have been a recount for sure.

You're made of stronger stuff than I am. My husband and I made a pact Tuesday morning that we would stay off TV and social media until Wednesday. 2016 was just too awful to repeat.

I voted before work (#269 at 8:15 at Gates of Heaven, unheard of), then went to an offsite and post-meeting reception on campus that kept me from even thinking about the election... until I walked home past two satellite trucks parked by the Orpheum stage door at 8:30. I didn't let myself speculate which party was there, just kept on walking.

Had a lovely rest of the evening, SO glad we embargo'd.

It actually was fun listening half-asleep to the WPR broadcast coverage until around 1:30 am Wednesday morning. First, they were about to call it for Walker.

Then, in real time they reported a "rumor" of a bunch of absentee ballots in Milwaukee County being "discovered." The rumor was validated. Mary Spicuzza and Dan Balz, both experienced Milwaukee reporters, tracked it down. The number of ballots was verified (a big number).

Earlier, the reporters had been saying Milwaukee's voter numbers were way down and for some reason the Milwaukee electorate just hadn't turned out for this off year election. Oh yes, they had.

The votes were counted fairly quickly, and the tally put Evers so far over the top he was unquestionably the winner. The icing on the cake was no recount could be ordered because the margin was over 1% thanks to a Republican bill Walker himself signed.

I went to sleep feeling a lot happier than I'd expected, but the next morning I started wondering what if they hadn't "found" those absentee ballots? What if the reporters hadn't aired the whole rumor? We're they lost on purpose, or just lost? I don't think we'll ever know, given the number of more substantive questions AG Kaul could investigate.

Another delight of the late evening was how, at the Walker election party, Walker never appeared. He didn't have to concede if he didn't want to, but he really could have thanked his donors and supporters for their money and efforts. Was he drunk? Asleep? Having a tantrum, or getting too weepy to step up? Finally Rebecca Kleefisch came out and said a few sentences to end the show.

A classless end for a classless, self-centered politician. It was always all about him.

I sure hope it's something that those two reporters can investigate a little bit because now you've got me intensely curious about the back story on that.

While I am in favor of getting to the bottom of this, since Milwaukee County is almost as blue as Dane, I find it hard to believe that there was a deliberate attempt to lose or conceal those votes. That's a Waukesha County kind of move, not Milwaukee.

That's a good point. And now that I think about, I'm not as curious as I was a half hour ago.

Will the Wisconsin red-coats ever be grateful to Milwaukee (73% turnout) and Dane (92%) counties for saving the state?

No. They're too stupid. They're Trumpers. It's a wonder they can dress themselves in the morning.
And spare me the talk about understanding them or being civil. They're the enemy. They'll never change. They don't like black people or brown people or Jewish people or Muslim people or gay people or atheists. They need to be defeated. And don't think for a moment that the feeling isn't mutual.
