Gmail Scam

Postby Bwis53 » Thu May 15, 2014 4:43 pm

Claiming to be from Google, the email's subject line includes "Mail Notice" or "Lookout Notice". The urgent message warns that you will be locked out of your account in 24 hours, due to exceeding email storage quota, and includes a link to increase your storage automatically.

That bogus link redirects you to a phony Google login page where you're asked to enter your credentials. According to CNBC, this particular attack is so dangerous because it is uniquely structured to make the phishing link extremely difficult to spot.

With access to your Gmail account, scammers can make purchases on Google Play, use your Google+ account, access your Google Drive documents and more.
WHAT (NOT) TO DO:
Protect yourself with three easy don'ts:

Don't open emails from unknown senders,
Never click on unknown links
Do not type your password anywhere that you haven't verified as a legitimate site.
If you are unsure, go directly to the account's official page to verify facts.

Google Docs phishing Scam

Postby Shorty » Wed May 03, 2017 2:32 pm

I got the google docs phishing scam in my outlook email today. Looks like this:

From: eric.knepp@gmail.com
Sent: Wednesday, May 03, 2017 12:40 PM
To: hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh@mailinator.com
Subject: Eric Knepp has shared a document on Google Docs with you

Eric Knepp has invited you to view the following document:

Open in Docs
-----------------------------------------

Like an idiot I didn't notice the weird To address and clicked the Open Docs link. Fortunately, my browser detected the scam and kept me from going to the fake google sign-in page.

I do not understand why anyone still uses Govermentoogle/gmail in the 1st place. DuckDuckGo and ixquick are so much safer.

Could be because most people never heard of DuckDuckGo and ixquick. Also, looks like those are search engines. There is no problem with google search engine. The phishing is with google docs.
