The sword in the lake

Postby Cadfael » Fri Oct 05, 2018 8:10 pm

An eight year old girl has pulled an ancient sword from a lake in Sweden.
She is my queen. I will follow her. That is, if she ever decides against her first career choices; doctor, vet, or an actress in Paris.

somewhere there's a rock:
"whosoever pulleth the switchblade out of this stone is the right-born chief justice of the united states supreme court"

Reminds me of "Help I'm a Rock" by Frank Zappa

It's a real drag bein' a rock.

"And a rock feels no pain, and an island never cries..."

I like how NBC used Excalibur as an example.

I never saw Game of Thrones.

I do remember the legends of King Arthur, though. Swords in a lake are quite Authurian.

I don't know how the Game of Thrones fits into the thread either and I read all the books.

Ned lives only in the current moment. If there's swords involved it must have something to do with the current popular TV show that has swords in it. For him, all other legends have faded into the mists. He can't keep that much data in his head and still manage the talking points he gets fed.

Why he thinks disparaging the show or the legend demonstrates wisdom is still a mystery to me but I think I'll figure it out eventually.

I didn't take that particular quip of Ned's seriously. He wasn't even trying.

Very little that Ned says should be taken seriously. Most of it isn't even intended to be taken seriously.

But it's fun to analyze. What was his motivation? Why play debby downer with a nonsense thread? What's the goal? How the bloody hell did he go from "ancient sword in a Swedish lake" to Game of Thrones? Why use snobby language?

Why get into Game of Thrones at all - which supposedly one would have to do before one could get "over" it - and then stop just before the last season so you miss all the loose ends getting tied up?

Yes, he wasn't trying but damn. His drivel speaks volumes about his empty little mind.

i guess i figured it was something of the same general form of knowingly obviously misattributing an onion headline to the wall street journal or the lancet, le monde or monatshefte für chemie or vjesnik or the handelsblatt . . . not ill-intended and not really drivel -- of course swords are near the top of the continuum of phallic symbolism . . . not that it's a bad thing . . .

hmmmm . . . let's all have a hit off the old bong or an extra shot of nicomorphine or a little something something this morning . . . i will start . . .

"why can't we all just get along?"
