...A FLOOD WARNING FOR URBAN AREAS AND SMALL STREAMS REMAINS IN
EFFECT UNTIL 1215 PM CDT SATURDAY FOR NORTHERN JEFFERSON AND
SOUTHWESTERN DODGE COUNTIES...

At 923 PM CDT, gauge reports and radar estimates confirmed a focused
area of very heavy rainfall that amounted to between 4 and nearly 9

period Friday morning. Flooded roads, yards, fields, and basements
will continue with gradual improvement into Saturday. Watertown and
Waterloo are experiencing the greatest flooding with this rain event
and many roads may remain closed tonight into Saturday. If a road
is closed and barricaded due to high water, do not drive around that
barricade.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Watertown, Waterloo, Ixonia, Richwood, Pipersville, Hubbleton and
Lake Lac La Belle.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

oppps . . . i wrote "oppps" because i was in watertown the day before yesterday and after an un-air-conditioned ride there i exclaimed something to the effect "fucken a† -- it feels like hell outside; why cannot it rain already with a 50 degree centigrade* dew point" and all sorts of other things . . . both there and sauk city had ones of 30° c/86° f the day in 2008 when the flooding all over the place began after up to 500 mm/15 inches of rain in something like 15-36 hours -- . .

---
† fucken a stands for fucking/apple, which was the means of downfall in the garden of eden &c it also contained recipes for cocktails, information about drugs, sex, and rock & roll, instructions for games with cards, dice, roulette wheels and the like . . . kurt vonnegut wrote about it . . .
* not exactly -- the world record has been on the red sea coast and environs and has been as high as 35° c or 95° f; the western hemisphere record most recently has been in appleton -- 32°c / 90° f, (it was 104° f at the time, which made for a ~150°f heat index i have heard the rumour about there being a time in eritrea when the dew point was 40 degrees centigrade . . .

I never liked that song very much. And it has nothing to do with the current downpour. It's not artistically bad, I just didn't care for it.

One man dead after car drives off Merrimac Ferry landing
https://www.channel3000.com/news/occupa ... /787643832

"According to Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister, there were two people in the car. The woman in the car was able to get out and swim ashore. The man in the car was unable to get to safety. It's unclear if the situation was flooding related.

The two reportedly drove into the lake around 9 p.m. The woman told officials they thought it was a normal road. The car was located about 25 feet off shore in 15 feet of water."

I suppose if one wasn't familiar with the area, on a dark night during heavy rain, it would be all too easy to drive right into the river. You would think that there'd be flashing red lights or something. Maybe there are for all I know. I haven't used the ferry for years, but I seem to remember stop signs with a flashing red light on the approach to the river.

Yes I would think once they close for the night, barricades with lights would be put up. On google maps street view I see no barricades or lights. Just two ordinary looking stop lights, but it's day time:

'This is incredible': Sauk County residents' homes flooded after water flows over Hillsboro dam
https://www.channel3000.com/news/-this- ... /788116013

As long as I remember
The rain's been comin' down
Clouds of mystery pourin'
Confusion on the ground
Good men through the ages
Tryin' to find the sun
And I wonder, still I wonder
Who'll stop the rain
