No State of the Union (of Soviet Socialist Republics) Speech

Postby Donald » Wed Jan 16, 2019 3:49 pm

Poor Donald Trump won't be able to stage a lie-fest in the stately Capitol Building this year. CNN's Chris Cillizza called it a "power move" by Nancy Pelosi, but it's really an attempt to get back to normalcy. If the President is going to have a temper tantrum and lie-fest, he can have it in the White House.

If Trump drops his hostage taking, stops ceding his authorities to Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter, gets government back to work and negotiates in a reasonable way, he can, I suppose, get a shot at his lying speech.

It's both. Total boss move on her part.

It's now being reported that the Speaker of the House didn't consult with either the Secret Service nor Homeland Defense before writing/posting her letter, and those two departments are saying they are up to the task and that security for the SOTU speech is not being hampered by the shutdown.

If true, then it's not a "boss" move at all on her part...rather a different word that also starts with "b" but ends in "ullshit"

The State of the Union statement from the president (as required by our Constitution) was delivered in writing for many decades. The Speaker of the House inviting the president to delivery it in person is a relatively recent courtesy. The power to invite (or not) is still hers.

Is he still our president? If only the satire was true.

Let's be honest. Most people don't listen to/watch the damn thing anyway.

Dangerous precedents being set all because the left can't come to terms with the results of an election.

"You lie!"

Is what rep. Joe Wilson shouted at Obama during his state of the union address.

Poor Ned, wetting himself over the possibility of missing an incoherent bunch of lies from his hero.

So here's my take.

After watching Nancy announce that she doesn't want the President to deliver the State of the Union address as a result of "Security" concerns for those members, to include herself, in the House and the Senate.

Mighty "White" of her to be Soooooo concerned about Her safety when she could really give a shit about the rest of the the American People.

Bitch!

Trump should deliver a written State of the Union address to Congress and the Senate and the People of the United States on the date the address should have taken place.

However, one day before that written address is delivered he should rent a stadium somewhere in the midwest or the south with a fixed or retractable roof and deliver his State of the Union address to those in the general public that want to come. He should lay out all the arguments for what he is doing, why he is doing it, and what results he expects to come out of it.

Let the American People decide for themselves what they think of what he says. He should tell those Dem's in the house and the senate leadership to "piss off", especially those like Nancy and Chucky, they could really care less about the rest of the American People.

And by the way, he should tell Mitch and the Repub. leadership the same as they don't give a shit about the American People either.

Welcome back. Liberals were getting bored here. How is Nancy, or the bitch as you call her, not concerned about the rest of the the American People? How could we afford to rent out, pay security and travel to a large stadium during a shutdown?

you must be joking wrote:Let the American People decide for themselves what they think of what he says.

Polls show majority opposes shutdown and blames Trump.

you must be joking wrote:He should tell those Dem's in the house and the senate leadership to "piss off", especially those like Nancy and Chucky.

I'd say he has already. Many times during his term.

you must be joking wrote:he should tell Mitch and the Repub. leadership the same as they don't give a shit about the American People either.

So it's just Trump against the Dem and Repub leaders. Sounds like he isn't popular. Or like a dictator. Do you not like checks and balances in gvmnt?

To me, it's as if Pelosi just told a nascent Hitler or Stalin to shut the fuck up. It shows Trump that he is constrained, as the Constitution intended, and the cowardly Republicans massively failed to do. Trump seems to be very confused about how he can deal with someone who actually holds him accountable. He's rarely had to deal with that throughout his life. He keeps shooting himself in the foot, and hurting the country by throwing his shut down temper tantrum. Mitch, of course, is letting Trump hang himself, a just punishment, but Mitch's cowardice needs to be punished as well.

was it woodrow wilson who gave the first speech in either 1913 or 1917? president carter did a written one right before he left office and i think that may be the last written one, or perhaps it was w j c in 1999 . . . has anyone had the vice president or another delegate give the speech or write the letter in their place?
coolidge was the first on the radio i i r c; either f d r or truman was on television i think . . .

Faulty if/then. She didn't need to consult. Kirstjen Nielsen had already weighed in.

Speaker Pelosi wrote:In September 2018, Secretary Nielsen designated State of the Union Addresses as National Special Security Events (NSSEs), recognizing the need for “the full resources of the Federal Government to be brought to bear” to ensure the security of these events. The extraordinary demands presented by NSSEs require weeks of detailed planning with dozens of agencies working together to prepare for the safety of all participants.

Details like that — Nielsen having to ignore her own declaration to align with Trump — are what make it a boss move. That's lost on most of the howling, foot-stomping Trump cohort, of course, but I'm sure some of them get it, which makes me happy.

Sidebar: why, I wonder, did Nielsen make that designation in September?
