Postby Beaver » Wed Jan 09, 2019 1:26 pm

"South Central Wisconsin United To Amend (SCWUTA), will mark the 9th anniversary of the Supreme Court's disastrous decision in Citizens United v. FEC with a FREE showing of the documentary film Dark Money. All are welcome!

Where: James Reeb UU Congregation, 2146 E. Johnson St. in Madison
When: Sunday, January 20, 2019. Social time is at 2:15 pm. Brief program starting at 2:45. The movie runs for 90 minutes.
Program: Mary Bottari of the Center for Media and Democracy (who's in the movie) and Matt Rothschild of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.
Refreshments: Unhappy birthday cake will be served.
Admission: Free
Why: No matter what your favorite cause is, it'll continue to be a lost cause as long as big money continues to buy public policy. We need to fix this problem first."

sure makes politicking easier and more fun when there's a built-in excuse for failure waiting at the bottom like a fire-fighters' trampoline, eh? the genius and longtime community service of rothschild and bottari not with standing . . .

what does the cake taste like? unhappy anniversary cake is a wobbly invention from back in the day if i am not mistaken. if one wants to be hard-core historically accurate, substitute salt for sugar . . .

Let Wisconsin Vote on Citizens United
Public · Hosted by Wisconsin Democracy Campaign and 3 others
Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 10 AM – 11 AM
Wisconsin State Capitol, Assembly Parlor

"This is a press conference on the 9th anniversary of the disastrous U.S. Supreme Court Citizens United ruling. Lead legislative sponsors, Rep. Lisa Subeck and Sen. Dave Hansen, will reintroduce the joint resolutions to let Wisconsin vote on the role of big money in elections. The resolution authorizes a statewide advisory referendum urging our elected officials amend the U.S. Constitution to overturn Citizens United v FEC and related Supreme Court rulings, and to declare that only flesh-and-blood human beings have constitutional rights.

The Money Out, Voters In--Wisconsin coalition, recognizing that Martin Luther King Day and the anniversary of the CU decision fell on the same day this year, underscores that CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM IS A CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE. We have got to change how poor people and people of color are underrepresented in the donor ranks, and as a result, our elected officials are not as responsive to their needs.

These resolutions are backed by the Money Out, Voters In--Wisconsin coalition, which consists of Citizen Action of Wisconsin, Common Cause in Wisconsin, NAACP Dane County, Our Wisconsin Revolution, the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, Wisconsin Farmers Union, WisPIRG, Wisconsin United to Amend, and Wisconsin Voices."
