The 2018 Brew Crew

Postby Henry Vilas » Thu Mar 29, 2018 2:48 pm

The season starts for the Brewers in a few minutes and hope springs eternal. Their bench is strong, but the pitching, as usual, is somewhat suspect. Not enough good starting pitchers, although the bullpen looks OK. They missed the playoffs by only one game last year and the Cubs have a very good team. They do have a good chance of at least getting a wild card slot this Autumn.

Cardinals seem strong most years. Won't they be in the mix? I need to enter a fantasy league, thanks for reminder.

I think last year was a bit of a fluke. They may come close to last year's record, but I'll be really surprised if they better it.

No more beer at Miller Park... because they lost the opener.

This is why we can't have a nice forum.

Exciting finish last night. The crew gave the those fans who stayed some great 9th inning fireworks (literal and figurative).

One quarter of the way through the season, the Brewers have lost Corey Knebel and Eric Thames. Their ace, Jimmy Nelson, hasn't returned from shoulder surgery. Braun is back on the 10 day disabled list. They have a 1-2 record against St. Louis and a 1-7 record against the Cubs. With this as a given, who would have predicted the Brewers would be in 1st place in the N.L. Central at this time. I think it bodes well for the remainder of our season. FTC.

Wow they made it the playoffs. Won 7 in a row to finish. Tie breaker with Cubs today.

I'm not sure if you call this "pitching by committee" or "mobbing the opponent with a crowd in the bullpen", but it's working. I guess the days of "no hitters" and "perfect games" are officially done. A starter who works more than four innings is officially on overtime.

I'm a big Atlanta fan right now. Even if they can't win the series, they can at least extend it out so the Brewers have extra rest. The Dodgers' starting pitchers are pretty scary, but if they're working on two days less rest, that's Milwaukee's benefit.

The way the Brewers are playing, I'd say they can hang with anyone. Solid pitching... a full rotation of hitters (sans pitchers). Amazing play from Yellich, especially considering that he hasn't even hit puberty yet. I'm going to dub that kid "spanky". Bring on the Dodgers. Or better yet, the Braves.
