UMBC lost to Albany 83-39. I've been watching College Basketball for many years and occasionally you see that game where a team just seems like they can't miss. I remember a good Badgers squad dropping a game to a mediocre Indiana squad in similar fashion. Nothing we put up seemed to go in, anything they tossed up found the net.

But UMBC's unlikely upset of #1 overall seed Virginia was something different. They were a mediocre team (I think the Bad-gers could have taken them in 9 of 10 games) and they were playing the #1 overall seed in the tournament. The amount of drive and luck necessary to pull off that upset was truly epic.

Congratulations to those kids for making history. I didn't have Virginia winning it all, so my bracket isn't completely busted, but I'll probably never see another #16 win so I kind of savored the moment. One win in the last 34 years? I guess I'll be 80 when another #16 seed wins. And I hope I'm pushing daffodils in 2052.
