Foxconn sweatshop

Postby Shorty » Wed Jun 14, 2017 11:40 am

Will they choose Michigan or WI? I bet their plant is bad for environment so Michigan seems a better fit.

Foxconn, assembler of iPhones, eyes Wisconsin for plant
http://www.channel3000.com/news/money/f ... /541856042

"At least one other state, Michigan, is also pursuing the plant. President Donald Trump alluded to negotiations with an unspecified company during a visit to Milwaukee on Tuesday, saying Gov. Scott Walker might get "a very happy surprise very soon...Foxconn has said the plant could employ 50,000 people."

Assembling TrumpPhones could be a HUGE new career choice!
Of course you'll have to live in a Trump brand dormitory with your many comrades.
Possibly not as lavish as a Trump hotel, the only gold plating you'll see will be on those connector pins you see during your 16 hour shifts.

Will they have the same anti-suicide netting outside the facility?

Foxconn has been involved in several controversies relating to how it manages employees in China. There has been a history of suicides at its factories blamed on working conditions. In January 2012, about 150 Foxconn employees threatened to commit mass-suicide in protest of their working conditions.

Walker downplays talk of Foxconn deal
http://www.channel3000.com/news/politic ... /590530718

"Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is downplaying talk of an imminent deal for iPhone manufacturer Foxconn to build its first U.S. plant in Wisconsin. Walker told reporters on Thursday that there is no specific proposal on the table to bring Foxconn to Wisconsin. He says, "Anything that's being talked about right now is purely speculative."

He even refused to confirm that Wisconsin is even talking with Foxconn, even though House Speaker Paul Ryan and others have said negotiations are ongoing. Walker also says anything Wisconsin may be doing to attract Foxconn is "disconnected" and "irrelevant" to Michigan passing an incentive package last week. Two Republican state lawmakers said Thursday that the state could announce a deal for Foxconn to invest up to $7 billion in the state within two weeks."

Report: Foxconn deal to come in Milwaukee Thursday
http://www.channel3000.com/news/money/r ... /592161728

"Milwaukee talk radio host and conservative commentator Mark Belling told listeners Monday afternoon that the Foxconn deal would be announced at the Milwaukee Art Museum on Thursday. Earlier Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported an announcement on a Wisconsin location could come this week.

News 3 has been unable to confirm those reports but has learned part of the Foxconn interest in Wisconsin is because of technology resources in Dane County."

It comes at a cost.

State offers Foxconn $3 billion in tax credits to bring jobs, facility to Wisconsin

That's three billion that won't be available to fix our roads, which are some of the worst in the country.

The cost is about $1,000,000 per job. Such a deal!

How do you figure? $3,000,000,000 incentives divided by 13,000 workers is $230,769 per worker. The Wisconsin Legislature must approve the deal in a special session expected in August.

"At least 3,000.... Potentially 13,000".

Even if you believe all the hype, $230K is a pretty awesome subsidy.

If it's less than 13,000 workers, incentives decrease proportionally. But yes $230,000 seems a lot for mostly factory workers.
