City Offices Closed Wednesday & Thursday

"Mayor Soglin and City staff have determined that, due to extremely hazardous weather conditions, the City is taking extraordinary measures to ensure the safety of our employees, residents, and guests the next two days. All non-essential City services will be shut down and closed to the public Wednesday, January 30 and Thursday, January 31.

Madison Metro Transit will be in service with some limitations. Please check mymetrobus.com to determine which routes are in operation. Police and Fire will be working, as will Public Works employees as they keep streets, sidewalks and bike paths cleared and provide residents with safe drinking water. Staff throughout the City will be monitoring phones and returning calls as needed."

"It's critically important that we're ensuring the people of Wisconsin and our public employees are safe in these dangerous weather conditions," Evers said. "I am urging people to prepare for this severe weather and to exercise caution when traveling or going outdoors."

All state agencies in the state of Wisconsin will close on Wednesday. This means, state agencies are required to allow employees who request to be excused from work due to the severe weather conditions to use appropriate leave in accordance with applicable rules or collective bargaining agreements, except those employees whose job duties include the provision or support of an emergency response, public health or public safety function.

The Wisconsin State Capitol will remain open to the public."
