"Amid the resistance to Trump's America, a Socialist Movement is growing for the first time in half a century. Over the last two years, we have come face to face with every question that the system poses for those who want a better world: How do we confront the growing far Right? How do we end sexual violence? How do we organize against all forms of racism and oppression? How do strikes win and how do they spread? How do we organize to push aside the existing world order so that we can build a society based on human need instead of one propped up by exploitation and oppression?"

You going to have anyone from Venezuela come and tell everyone about the wonderful way that Marxism has helped the people of that country?

Nope. We're going for Denmark, or Sweden, countries where socialism has provided a better quality of life for ALL their citizens than the United States.
You just got OWNED, wingnuts!

I would not refer Denmark or Sweden as Countries that are run on the principles of Karl Marx. Sweden and Denmark are countries that have married socialism with capitalism in a sorta, kinda way.

The true Marxist idea of state control over everything depends on the willingness of all the people of the state to give up all of their individual property for the benefit of all.

It also depends on the willingness of those in power to give up their power for the good of all people.

Been tried in the USSR, China, Cambodia, Viet Nam, East Germany, Venezuela, North Korea among other places. And just how has been the track record of those countries when it comes to HUMAN RIGHTS as compared to our country?

I love this quote from Professor R.J. Rummel who was an Emeritus Professor at the University of Hawaii.
https://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/COM.ART.HTM

As a government's power is more unrestrained, as its power reaches into all the corners of culture and society, and as it is less democratic, then the more likely it is to kill its own citizens. There is more than a correlation here. As totalitarian power increases, democide multiplies until it curves sharply upward when totalitarianism is near absolute. As a governing elite has the power to do whatever it wants, whether to satisfy its most personal desires, to pursue what it believes is right and true, it may do so whatever the cost in lives. In this case power is the necessary condition for mass murder. Once an elite have it, other causes and conditions can operated to bring about the immediate genocide, terrorism, massacres, or whatever killing an elite feels is warranted.

Democide as he calls it is the state murdering of its own citizens.

As he rightfully pointed out, this state sponsored murder is common in all totalitarian societies and there is at the end, no difference in that way between the Nazi's and the Communists as either system is engaged in a war "against poverty, exploitation, imperialism, and inequality."

I don't know about you but I don't ever want to be associated with either of those two forms of totalitarianism or any other type of totalitarianism unless I am fighting against them.

I expect the Midwest conference is promoting "Marxism" of the Western countries that Garg describes and not the Communist dictatorships that YMBJ lists. If you search "are there marxist countries" you get a lot of different answers but the ones I liked best are here:

https://www.quora.com/How-many-countrie ... cal-theory

"That depends on the definition. If defined as socialist aspects, then almost every country on the planet have some form of welfare. Defined at the other extreme, then none and none have ever existed. The classical ones, USSR, Mao's China, and Cambodia all had elements which contradicted the Marxist ideal. In other words, having the concept so loosely defined, makes it impossible to answer...

Technically there has been no regime in history that has implemented Marxist ideals completely. Also, there is no country in the modern world that has absolutely no Marxist ideal in its economic structure. All economies in the world today are sort of mixed economies. Even the flag bearer of capitalism, the United States is a welfare state having social security, healthcare, minimum wage and other welfare programs. On the other hand countries who claim to be Marxist/Communist either have State capitalism(like that in former Soviet Union) or free market economy like you have in China."
