Harlan Ellison is dead.
He lived to the age of 84.
There was a time, I guess in my late teens and early 20s, when Harlan Ellison was one of my favorite authors. Not just his science fiction work. He also wrote Memos from Purgatory, in which Harlan Ellison, who could pass for a teenager when in his twenties, joined a 1950s NYC street gang for a while, and wound up in jail at the end of that time. Good stuff.
What books, zines or other pulp are you reading? What aren't you reading? What should everyone else read?

I really liked his work. He wrote some classic Outer Limits and Star Trek episodes. But every flippin time I saw him in interviews or read one of his essays, I had to admit that I just didn't like the guy. He and I couldn't have had a beer together without getting into an argument. But boy could he write. I read "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" like, forty years ago and I still twitch a little when something reminds me of it.
