Metcalfe's is getting Vienna Dogs!

Postby Bwis53 » Sat Aug 25, 2018 12:07 pm

I wish I was a Vienna Hotdog! When I lived in Illinois we always had Vienna Dogs. I emailed Metcalfe's and here is the meat department's response:
Thank you for reaching out to us about getting a new product in.I ordered a Vienna beef hot dog, and also a Chicago Style hot dog from one of our suppliers.I expect to have it on the shelf no later than Friday next week. I will try to get it out sooner if possible.

I'm happy about the Portilo's building on the far east side but I don't want to go that far. I'm going to build my own Chicago style dog! Yum!

I'm happy for you. I like a good Chicago-style dog myself.

Had the other area grocery stores that have carried Vienna dogs stopped carrying them? I know I've bought them in the Madison area many times in the past, but I admit it's been a while since I shopped for hot dogs.

I emailed and talked to the Vienna Beef Company and they had a very small list of places in Wisconsin. I was surprised that they didn't seem very interested in marketing, so I emailed Metcalfe's and Pick N Save. So far, I've gotten a positive response from Metcalfe's.

Good for Metcalfe's, I may check it out, the next time I'm "way out" on the west side.

We always get quarter-pound dogs at Ken's Meats and Deli in Monona, and they are very acceptable "Chicago-style" hot dogs. They tell us they get them from Chicago. We buy them a couple dozen at a time, take some to the cabin for the summer.

Metcalfe's should also get some decent poppy-seed hot dog buns, and sport peppers, that would round out the "trifecta"!!

What exactly is a sport pepper? Never seen a plant that produces them for sale at any garden center. Maybe it's only a FIB thing.

What Cad showed, above. They're a little hotter, and a lot crunchier, than a mild banana pepper. I love 'em on my dogs, but I tend to like hot spicy foods in general.

I like them too. I was just wondering if they are a specific pepper that one could purchase seeds or plants and grow your own. Or are they just a hot banana pepper with a brand name?

That I don't know. I'm pretty sure that they're not a variety of banana pepper though.

Google says it's a Capsicum annum. Trump and Roy would say that Google is biased however.
