Postby Shorty » Fri Jan 19, 2018 10:17 am

Bad news for some of you drunks here. Their sign on Univ Ave says something about a 10% clearance sale. Cap Times article from 9/17 says it and the nearby by Harvey st apts will be replaced with new apartments and retail. Don't we have enough of those type buildings already?

"World's #1 Retailer of Keg Beer
Due to the imminent sale of Party Port we are offering 10% off all existing inventory. This discount includes kegs currently in stock, but not special order kegs. Voted "Best in Madison." Nobody gives you more for your party than Party Port... Nobody!"

Proposal would replace Party Port on University Ave. with apartments, commercial space ... 1550f.html

"The days are numbered for a popular purveyor of beer by the keg on Madison's west side. Flad Development plans to demolish Party Port Liquor, along with its distinctive sign on University Avenue, to make way for a 52-unit apartment building with parking and commercial space at 2901 University Ave.

John Flad, president of the company, said at the earliest, the project would begin in the spring of 2018 and open in the spring of 2019. The site is about an acre and includes the one-story cinder block liquor store, as well as multifamily buildings along Ridge and Harvey Streets, all of which would be demolished.

The new development would create 52 market-rate apartment units above 10,700 square feet of first-floor retail. The building would include a parking structure with 113 parking spaces. One level of parking would be at ground level and one underground. The building would be reach five stories on University Avenue and two stories on Harvey Street."

This article has a more recent rendering of the project

They changed it due to concerns about the "neighborhood in a forest".

I've known owner Pat Machovec for over 36 years. They made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
