Remember these?

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

I'd been to quite a few of them.
Anybody really miss Griff's though? Or the McDonald's on the Square?
Thinking of the Square reminds me of King's Food Host. That should have been on the list.

i am almost certain that i have been to all of those places at least once, some more than others,
which is why the slide show as a whole was shocking . . .

griff's was great -- we could walk there from the house when when the weather was good and in addition to all of their chicken and hamburger offerings was ice cream and two particularly good types of cheese curds . . .

the list did leave off new orleans take out and the pinckney street hide-away, or maybe that
is for another article . . . slammers too . . .

My foggy memory recalls a King's at the corner of University and Midvale. Were they the ones where orders were taken through a speaker at the booths?

The one I remember was on Pinckney St, near the Tenney Building. You did order by phone from a booth. The other feature was a map of the US that had little white lights showing where all their locations were. I saw one in Fargo ND back in 68, and seeing the dot where Madison was made me homesick.

I have to think back to 1973. We were at the one at University and Hilldale. I remember them being crispy and tasty.

When Crandall's was downtown near the Square, they had a smelt fry on Fridays. They would run ads in Isthmus saying that the smelt were running.

If they smelt bad maybe that's why they closed.
