Re: Kavanaugh isn't a rapist. I know. Let's Vote.

"What happened at Georgetown Prep stays at Georgetown Prep." That was how Kavanaugh answered a question posed by Sen. Kennedy (R-Louisiana). Not a good answer in light of the information we now have. There are 17-year-olds with criminal records for doing what Kavanaugh is accused of doing....

Re: Have you voted yet?

I would rather they open more polling places or hire more people on election day than spend money on questionable technology.

Re: Have you voted yet?

I don't vote early on principle. Early voting has been shown to depress turnout. It seems spreading out voting over weeks decreases the community nature of election day. It turns voting into just another individual trip to the store for hamburger, rather than a celebration that everyone does on cert...

Re: Donald Trump Struggles to be Presidential

Since the GOP had tight control over the Senate, I don't know what the Dems could have possibly done to force a Supreme Court confirmation hearing for Garland. Yup. The majority sets the schedule, and Republicans were in the majority. The minority could have used Senate rules to bog down the work o...

Re: Donald Trump Struggles to be Presidential

Actually, Trump's performance as "fascist mental defective", as horribly and terrifying as it is, is a distraction from the real story, which is the wingnuts stealing all the political power. With Kavanaugh joining Gorsuch, there really is nothing they can't do. Gerrymandered districts? n...

Re: Tony Evers Campaign

Some people are taken in by "government by grand gesture." Yanking a teacher license when you don't have statutory authority to do so qualifies as a "grand gesture." It would have been reversed by courts. People who think grand gestures without a lawful basis are fine are lawless...

Re: Here it comes: NFL to fine teams for players who kneel

My grandfather was in the South Dakota Guard when the US entered World War I. Some of the officers were concerned about the Hutterite Colonies that had begun to dot eastern South Dakota. These were communal German-speaking farming communities, and they wanted to make sure they were properly inculcat...

Re: Donald Trump Struggles to be Presidential

You don't get Trump without Walker, Pence, Snyder and that ilk of Republican Governors, the pretend Christian piety in service corporate hegemony. Walker's style of fascism comes with the same level of lying, hate and dirty tricks that Trump has evidenced, but the innocent, choirboy gaze make the gr...

Re: Donald Trump Struggles to be Presidential

Trump has mental problems, and is incompetent. The next one of these "leaders" picked by the white right may be a sane, competent fascist. Then we'll really be in trouble. Trump can't do simple human gestures when a prominent leader in his own party dies. What kind of dreck supports this k...

Re: How long will he last?

I was reading over our wisdom from a year and a half ago. We had no idea how bad it could be. Still he hangs on. Here's my missive: Obama is going to leave Trump with a pretty good economy: reasonably good employment figures, longest period of growth (yes, not explosive growth, but sustainable) in h...

Re: Floods

Midvale Boulevard by Hilldale was a river at 10:00 last night. We took some water in the basement, and some places on University had water in the buildings. It started to recede by 10:30, and some drivers dared to plow through. I didn't see anyone stall out, but I wouldn't have chanced it. We are do...

Re: Walker frequent flyer

Governors fly a lot. They gotta be places n shit. Uh, no. This is really out-of-control megalomania. First, his job, the bulk of it anyway, should be managing state government, not giving speeches and handing out awards, which then get turned into campaign spots. Surprising he doesn't make a spot o...

Re: Benghazi! (again)

I didn't bother watching this clip. I've seen her program, and it's nearly Alex Jones looney tunes. I try to not pollute my mind with hate. Aside from defending everything Trump does, she a fomenter of hate against immigrants and Muslims. I can't stand to watch it. I'm not sure she believes this shi...

Re: Brennan's security revoked

I agree that Trump is playing petty games, but why would former officials still need a security clearance? If a person is no longer part of the government's intelligence community, then how does this punish 'em and/or suppress their "free speech"? People who leave government may continue ...

Re: Why Doesn't Trump Shut Down Russian Uranium Mine?

The Trump Administration's Nuclear Regulatory Commission, ignoring the panty-twisting on the right, seem not so concerned about that supposed dastardly Hillary Clinton and her supposed corruption in the Uranium One matter. Trump's NRC is getting set to approve this Russian-owned company's expansion ...
