Re: Brenda Konkel not running for mayor

Too bad. I wasn't contemplating voting for her, but she would have added interest to the campaign. I think an adviser must have finally gotten through to her that she has a bit of a toxic reputation in the city and she would have have gotten smoked in the primary. She's done a lot of good for the c...

Re: A public market? Are you kidding me?!

I'll continue saying it until I'm blue in the face: The public market is a solution in search of a problem, and moving the location a block from the original planned spot solves nothing. That area is in absolutely no way a food desert, and there's literally one Metro bus route that serves the locati...

Re: I miss Jeremy Ryan

Do you know anyone 6 feet tall and 220 pounds? Maybe he was talking about himself. If he is suffering from a terminal illness then perhaps he was considering self-euthanization, yet wanted to have the gov't blamed for his death. I suppose that's an interesting semi-conspiracy theory, but I think it...

Re: "Soglin will not seek, nor will he accept..."

Judge Doyle Square and its genesis have always left a bitter taste in my mouth, especially because Soglin ran in 2011 because he was frothing mad about the TIF proposal to rebuild The Edgewater (in fairness, justifiably so, because that area was in no way blighted). But then like a year later he tur...

Re: "Soglin will not seek, nor will he accept..."

I was considering Rhodes-Conway before this. In response to Soglin's announcement, one of the things she complained about is the lack of a bus rapid transit system. I'd like to see that too, but I wonder how she plans to pay for it. It's either new revenue, which is hard to come by due to state-imp...

Re: Who is your favorite Democratic gubernatorial candidate?

I really like Kelda Roys, Mike McCabe, Kathleen Vinehout and Tony Evers. We'd be so much better off with any of them as governor, but I just don't know who has the best chance of winning. Hate Walker or not, he's gonna be tough to beat. Unfortunately, elections have become more and more a popularit...

Re: State St hotel

Anybody know how Edgewater is doing now that they've had time to stabilize? All my contacts over there have moved on. They're still experiencing ridiculous amounts of staff turnover (that's normal in hotels, but Edgewater's is still well above the norm) but, from what I've heard through the grapevi...

Re: State St hotel

Market surveys must have indicated potential hotel guests exist, so what events are all these guests supposedly attending, guests who had no place to stay before? That's what's confusing me. Obviously the increased hotel capacity downtown will be good for things like Epic's UGM or XGM or whatever t...

Re: State St hotel

I just don't get the obsession with cramming hotels into that area. You've got the Concourse, which just renovated top-to-bottom a few years ago and has 373 rooms. At least they have their own underground parking. In the MATC building, they want to put the Drury Plaza Hotel, which would have 315 roo...

Re: Barrett for governor?

I said it before, and I'll say it again. I'll vote for Not Scott Walker in the general election. I just wish the Democrats had a strong candidate, so people could feel comfortable voting FOR the person, and not just against Walker. Unfortunately, WisDems have found out on more than one occasion jus...

Re: Barrett for governor?

Barrett can fuck right off. He ran two of the most half-hearted campaigns in history in 2010 (when he didn't even want to run) and 2012 (when he ran because Mike Tate begged him to), and the vote percentages for him against Walker were almost the same both times.

No thanks, Tom.

Re: Madison College to sell downtown campus?

I have to assume that they have market studies that lead them to believe that Madison can support that many more hotel rooms. It doesn't seem like it to me. Maybe they think a shiny new hotel will take business away from older hotels, like the Concourse. Even the Concourse redid all of its rooms in...
