Re: Why put the train station at the airport?
Serving a regional airport with a regional train makes no sense. You're kidding. No. I'm dead serious - and right. Multi-modal transit stations connect a varying hierarchy of multiple modes, not duplicative modes - clearly. Regional to regional direct connections (i.e. same location) are exactly th...

Re: Why put the train station at the airport?
The bus hubs bring-in far more people than a railroad depot will. Do you see significant economic development around the city's four bus hubs? I'm not condemning your theory, I don't know, but I'm skeptical. When the city commits significant economic development efforts with a planning vision we do...

Re: Edgewater Reconsideration?
Lots of NGL haters, but I like that building. I used to live right across the street at 1 E Gilman (the greatest building in all of Madison, IMO, Capitol included). The old Vilas mansion was lovely, but something about NGL's unapologetically rectangular stance and deep, cozy overhang has always app...

Re: Why put the train station at the airport?
Pleasant walk. Nice bike ride. I don't think either one is a very good location. Neither is near anything. Unless Marling lumber is a big tourist attraction I don't know about. Why not the Kohl center or the new Union south? They're actually near things people come to Madison for. One of the key id...
Sick Cow
Has anyone else noticed that trains passing through the city have a new spooky, moaning, wounded cat-like horn pitch as they slowly maneuver through downtown?

FYI - we added new posts describing the top design advantages of the Fiore-Irgens proposal and detailing the daylighting considerations. http://madisoncentrallibrary.blogspot.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Thanks to Mr. Kunkler and Mr. Holzhauer for the information provided on ...

Re: Ugly New House on Willy Street
It was the Landmarks Commission, not MNA that changed the roofline based on staff comments. The house is in the Third Lake Ridge Historic District. Todd Barnett is the architect. Everyone I've talked too in the n'hood thinks the house looks really cool... I like it. I have to say I liked it better ...

Re: Central Library Proposal
The Fiore proposal is FAR superior in my opinion (based on the limited information provided to date). Here's why: 1) It is a much more aesthetically pleasing design. (I do agree with snoqueen regarding heat gain and shading of the southeast facing facade, I would recommend sunshades and screening at...

Re: Grade the plowing
I live downtown, and drove to work safely and uneventfully Friday morning. The plows had been hard at work and there were mountains of snow all over downtown on my way to work - but there was a clear path of travel and I didn't get stuck once in my rear wheel drive car. I have a private parking spot...

My guess is you are referring to the moorings for the fence installed annually to keep people from walking on the thin ice resulting from MG&E's warm water output into the lake.

Re: Monroe Street Bistro - worst dining experience
I enjoy massive burgers dripping with fixin's as much as the next guy, but often I want something smaller and simpler. Where can I get a humble diner-style burger? Just a slim patty with mustard, ketchup, pickles and onions. The kind of burger that Wimpy feasts upon in Popeye comics. Something you ...
