Re: David Blaska running for School Board

Yes, Blaska would be a disaster on the School Board. The Caffeinated Politics author shows a pitfall of spouting off on a topic about which you know nothing. You could end up embarrassing yourself. Both he and Blaska would benefit from actually visiting one of our schools. I suggest they check Googl...

Re: David Blaska running for School Board

I agree with Donald. It is a privilege to serve on the School Board. People say it's a thankless job, but in fact I got thanked all the time. It is a lot of work, but the issues are fascinating. Everyone's got an opinion about the schools, but only seven people have the votes. It is good to be one o...

Re: David Blaska running for School Board

David -- I know that neither Ali nor Ananda favor removing EROs from our schools because I asked them, as I'm sure they will be asked many times over the course of the campaign. I don't know what "Freedom Inc. folks" have supported Ali or Ananda in past runs, but I don't think it's fair to...

Re: David Blaska running for School Board

No current School Board member, or School Board candidate supports removing ERO's from the schools. And, going back a few posts here, David Cohen is wrong. Neither Ananda Mirilli nor Ali Muldrow is "thick with" the Freedom Inc. activists, whatever that is supposed to mean, and neither is i...

Re: First Step For School District: Get 120.42 (b) Repealed

School Board members do not specifically advocate for their own neighborhood schools. But it is natural that Board members are more familiar with the issues at, for example, the schools their kids attend. In order to address this potential parochialism, for the last several years each Board member h...

Re: School board race heated already

Thanks for the kind words. Green -- In the hypothetical of Madison losing 50 students to vouchers, we would lose the state aid I described. Also, our revenue limit (which is better thought of as a spending limit) would also be decreased because it is determined on the basis of our number of students...

Re: School board race heated already

Well, since you asked . . . . The actual figure is a bit less than $900,000. It is $897,404. That is the sum of two figures. The first figure is calculated by multiplying the amount a voucher school receives per student ($7,050) times the percentage of that amount that comes out of the state aid of ...

Re: The same people who brought you Sarah Manski...

I think Westsidegal is spot on. The way things appear is that Loumos is just another candidate whose qualifications are measured more by opposition to Walker rather than actual involvement in our schools who is pushed by John Matthews and Paul Soglin to run for School Board and whose success would e...

Re: Madison school board arrogance?

Thanks for the feedback. Here’s the thing: high-level hiring – or any hiring – isn’t done in the public square. You can’t get people to apply unless you can promise them confidentiality, at least up to the point where they are announced as finalists. So while it might be helpful to us personally if ...
