Re: 97% Scientist Consensus: global warming is man-made

After seeing the images from Mexico Beach FL and earlier ones from Hurricane Florence, many people would agree our government, corporations, and individuals all need to put more resources toward disaster relief and climate change mitigation. If the Democrats presented it right, now might be the time...

Re: Random thoughts

I've also heard they dug a great big hole and used the dirt to build an elevated platform for the tent. Haven't been past there to check it out for a week or so. No, that elevated area is east of the tent. Been wondering what that is for. I love dress-up events and when I was younger I would have t...

Re: Floods

Circling back to the Voit property plans: Here's the city's draft plan for future use of the Milwaukee St properties were were discussing a few days ago -- http://www.cityofmadison.com/dpced/planning/milwaukee-st-special-area-plan/2720/ You can see how crazy the city boundary is in that area, and wh...

Re: Floods

i thought woodman's had a new east side store, such as it was, in the area betwixt sun prairie and the north-east side of madison right by exit 100 and kusek's pond and all that . . . i would think they would be wanting to fill in some gaps by maybe putting a new one in jefferson or verona or somew...

Re: Floods

When I was a kid, in the late 50's and early 60's, an area bordered by Scofield Street, Commercial Avenue, Packers Avenue, and Hoard Street was a wetland. There were toads, frogs, turtles, pheasants, and other wildlife there. I witnessed it being land filled, in fact my friends and I played there. ...

The Democrats are already saying if they retake the House, they'll reopen the investigation and do it right this time.

Re: House hunting

I've been waiting for one of these to come up for sale. https://www.starkhomes.com/property/251938793/1-thorstrand-rd-madison-wi-53705 Asking price 1.6 million. Madison assessment 199,000 ... I actually wrote to the city assessor asking about it and recieved the following response, albeit concernin...

Re: Floods

Yes, in the recent past water management has been considered in greenfield development to some extent. An example of failure can be seen along the bike path that runs beside the e-way south of the city, where it skirts just north of a subdivision of very large single family homes and along a portion...

Re: Floods

I would like to see some consideration of restoring wetlands we previously filled in. I can name several right now: some of the muddy parts of Olbrich Park beside the lake (you know that had to be marshland pre-settlement), and much of the parking area near East Towne. I myself remember that huge lo...

Re: House hunting

I like the Winnequah Rd house a lot, particularly the corner windows in the living room. On the downside, the windows look original and would be costly to replace, so I guess that's a wash. What's with the weird half-table in the kitchen, attached to the cabinets? (You can probably get rid of it wit...

Re: House hunting

What are those plates on the wall over the bathroom sinks? I can't tell for sure, but some bathrooms in the 1950s had little built-in recesses for the toothbrushes. There was a revolving thing that had a metal mirror on one side (the plate you ask about) and when you pushed, it sort of swiveled aro...

Re: Kavanaugh isn't a rapist. I know. Let's Vote.

Kavanaugh's job interview was exemplary. This has nothing to do with what he did or did not do in high school or at Yale. Everyone who applies for a demanding, high level job should expect to show, in real time, how he or she deals with stress, interpersonal conflict, and the unexpected. Some candida...

Re: House hunting

It looks like somebody is preparing to tear the Heart House down. I drive by there fairly frequently, and I've seen a dumpster or two in the driveway. Then a few of the windows got removed and/or boarded up. Workers are there most days now, and I'm guessing they're removing whatever can be scrapped ...

No investigation, no "yes" vote from Flake, I think Murkowski, and maybe a couple others.

We'll see who blinks first.
