VA Scandal: More of the Same

Postby Ned Flanders » Wed May 21, 2014 2:29 pm

Obama employing his time-tested strategy to push this one down the memory hole:

"Surprise/Shock"
"Anger"
Promises that "heads will roll"
Calls for "further investigation"
Repeat as need until LSM media partners bury the scandal

Ya gotta admit, the guy knows how to work an angle.

Flanders Hates Obama: More Of The Same

No info, no thought, not even a link. Just another obvious partisan attack.

Ya gotta admit, the guy knows how to be a repetitive boor.

Well it IS more of the same. It's been this way since Kennedy, I think. Maybe longer.

Don't remember Ned being pissed off about it when we had a Republican president, though.

Think it might be because this time, somebody might actually do something about it?

I don't remember any secret lists when Bush was president. Obama knew about his since at least 2009, and did nothing to fix the problem. In fact, it's worse.

U.S. Senate Republicans blocked legislation on Thursday that would have expanded federal healthcare and education programs for veterans, saying the $24 billion bill would bust the budget.

Even though the legislation cleared a procedural vote on Tuesday by a 99-0 vote, the measure quickly got bogged down in partisan fighting.

Supporters said the measure would have brought the most significant changes in decades to U.S. veterans' programs. For example, it called for 27 new medical facilities to help a healthcare system that is strained by veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

With Democrats pressing for passage this week, Senate Republicans, backed by their leader, Mitch McConnell, attempted to attach controversial legislation calling for possible new sanctions on Iran that President Barack Obama opposes.

Obama Was Warned About VA 'Death Panels' 5 Years ago

Documents show the president was told by Veterans Administration officials during his transition briefings that he shouldn't trust the wait time and treatment scheduling data being reported by local VA centers.

On April 9, 2009, with his Secretary of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Eric Shinseki by his side, President Obama said, "As long as I'm commander in chief, I promise that we will work tirelessly to meet that mission and make sure that all those who wear this nation's uniform, know this when you come home to America, America will be there for you."

True, he has significantly increased VA funding on his watch. This upcoming fiscal year Obama requested a 3% boost for the Veterans Affairs budget. Obama's fiscal 2015 budget request points out he has increased the VA discretionary budget by 35.2% since 2009.

The question amid this scandal is just how this taxpayer money was spent.

"I am amazed this (scandal) is still happening, given the big increase in resources that the department has received," says Phillip Carter of the Center for a New American Security.

Maybe not so amazing when you consider that according to records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon, the VA has spent $489 million to upgrade conference rooms, buy drapes and purchase office furniture during the past 4-1/2 years.

Just months before President Obama made his pledge to veterans, VA officials warned the Obama-Biden transition team not to trust the wait-time data that VA hospitals were reporting.

Wow, Ned. Those are great reasons for the Republicans to hold up the bill so they can tack on sanctions against Iran.

What patriots they are. Fuck the vets until we can starve some Iranian kids.

Plenty of funds to the VA. Irresponsible spending, bureaucratic incompetence and lack of accountability are sinking this ship. Ghosts of Obamacare future for sure.

Two interesting points from this thread:
1. Ned isn't upset about VA treatment of vets. He's upset that Obama is mentioning it?
2. Hot tub pic above: at least he's spamming his own threads now.

Fucking pervert.

Miami VA Whistleblower Exposes Drug Dealing, Theft, Abuse

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – When asked why he would risk his job and speak publicly, Detective Thomas Fiore considered the question carefully before answering.

“People are dying,” he finally said, “and there are so many things that are going on there that people need to know about.”

Fiore, a criminal investigator for the VA police department in South Florida, contacted CBS4 News hoping to shed light on what he considers a culture of cover-ups and bureaucratic neglect. Among his charges: Drug dealing on the hospital grounds is a daily occurrence.

“Anything from your standard prescription drugs like OxyContin, Vicodin, Percocet, and of course marijuana, cocaine, heroin, I’ve come across them all,” he explained.

Even inside the hospital, he says he was stopped from doing his job – investigating reports of missing drugs from the VA pharmacy. When the amount of a particular drug inside the pharmacy doesn’t match the amount that the pharmacy is supposed to have, a report, known as a “discrepancy report” is generated. Normally it was his job to investigate the reports to determine if they were the result of harmless mistakes or criminal activity. But all that changed, he said, about two years ago.

“I was instructed that I was to stop conducting investigations pertaining to controlled substance discrepancies,” he recalled.

Clearly, this is all Obama's fault.

Ned, given the problems you have brought forth in this thread what advice would you give a young man or woman who is thinking about enlisting in the Armed Services?
