What Bluesy Song Is This?

Postby Bwis53 » Mon Mar 31, 2014 5:10 pm

I heard this song in a store years ago and never forgot it. I tried google but got no where. It's a nice, slow, sexy, bluesy song. It sounds like Robert Cray and one of the lyrics is:"I'm holdin' out for love!" Help much appreciated!

No, this has definitely got to be a black male singer. Maybe I should ask my neighbors...

I'll be a monkey's uncle if you track down this song. Robert Cray? He sings in a rather non-distinctive falsetto a lot. If you heard it in a store, it must have been a "black" singer like John Mayer. I am curious what song impressed you so much, it must be good. Was it more soul than blues?

A guy who sings a little like Robert Cray is Buddy Guy, but he wouldn't have any use for love.

That's it! You made my night! But the version that got me is: Mike Zito. Slow, sexy and bluesy (and white)...

Oh your God, I can hardly sit still right now, I am jumping out of my fucking skin... Robert Cray and Buddy Guy sing NOTHING alike. NOTHING. Not even CLOSE, not even a HINT of similarity.

Cray is a soul crooner, Guy is pure blues belter.

Holy crap Huck, if you are even half as wrong about the things I don't know about as you are this thing I do know about, I will never read another word you post.

And for the record, you are the only person I've ever seen suggest that anything about Cray's voice is "non-distinctive."

Damn, dude. DAMN.

Guy became a rough-voiced "belter" when he got old, and you discovered him on VH1 playing with Eric Clapton at rock festivals.

He could be a soulful singer in his prime. This is first old-song to come up on youtube.

There's is truth in what you say, Guy did sing rough a lot, but he could sound like Robert Cray too.

I've never said it before, but I'll probably start now. Robert Cray couldn't bore me more if he stopped singing and playing altogether and just stood perfectly still. But I totally dig the crazy music of Buddy Guy.

The greatest blues singer ever is Bobby Bland.

Speaking of bland, I really don't get Robert Cray. He is just OK. Maybe I would think differently if I saw him perform live.

Buddy Guy has always been soulful, and he sings in falsetto quite a bit, but he is nothing close to the smooth crooner Cray is, and never was. It's really hard for Buddy Guy to not turn even the most sensitive croon into a screechy scream at some in the song.

Cray is hardly a blues singer; he sings the blues, but he's a soul singer.

I love them both.

I would call Robert Cray a guitar player with a decent voice. Soul singer? OK, but no Otis Redding, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green. (Don't blame me, you nominated him to soul singer category.)
