Change of scenery today

Postby zeropoint » Wed Mar 05, 2014 10:05 am

Hi!

I really want a change of scenery today, just a little break. Plus I am a photographer so bonus points if there is something cool to photograph.

However, I am bound by logistics: I don't drive, and I'm pretty much broke until Friday. I know that really limits my options, but I'd still like to get out for the day and at least sit in a different cafe or something.

Anybody have ideas?

Take a walk on one of the lakes. Lots of photo opportunities and exercise to boot. You can sit in a cafe anytime.

Do dress warm though, gets pretty windy.

Great suggestion! You go first, I'll catch up with you later.

My first thought was to go to Edgewater Hotel bar and stare out over the moonscape, warm drink in hand. My second thought was, well, you know.

I think our friend here is screwed. No car. Presumably not insane. Still in tail end of cold snap.

Good lord. The dear fellow said he is a photographer, not an arctic explorer. He mentioned a cafe.

Look, the 6 bus line runs right out on East Wash, stops at Pedros restaurant. Visions. You'll have your change of scenery in comfort, but better leave the camera at home.

Olbrich botanical gardens should be on/near a bus line. Warm. Humid. Sunny. Nice.

I hear there's singing in the Capitol every day at noon.

I'm with narco on this one. Snow photography is beautiful. The sun is remarkably warm today and if you stay out of the wind I think you will find the temperature pretty decent. I was outside at least an hour earlier this morning and that's my report.

If one is on foot and looking for a change of scenery, the first thing I'd ask is "what scenery are you looking at right now?"

It's the fucking zoo, not some Siberian wilderness preserve. They even shovel the walks, ferchrissake.

They're constructing right now. Looks like they're building the arctic wonderland exhibit.

The gate at the new animal hospital is closed. And the otters won't come out of the hollow log.

Chazen Museum is free and has a new exhibit. You can photograph their permanent collection. MMOCA as well.

Capitol Square! Plus there's a gazzillion coffee shops, to sit for awhile and get even more ideas. I've got 40 years of photos to prove it.

Take the 15 out til it turns up Old Sauk Rd. Get off at the next stop and walk into Owen Conservancy. Look east and see a city that seems to be totally embraced by trees even when the leaves are down.

There is also a similar (if less treed) view from the Research Park hill up behind Oakwood. (14, get off at Island and Rosa.) And there are some great hawks up there (and tons of rodents just under the snow. If you watch, you might see some successful hunting.)
