Dear God...

Postby pjbogart » Fri Jan 10, 2014 10:16 pm

So it's about the best day in a month or so, the cold snap has broken and there's a humid mist as the packed ice on the roads begins to melt. Dogs are frolicking, people are smiling and the kids are back to school.

And then God comes along and says, "oh, this won't do!" So about an hour before rush hour begins we start to see a little rain, then a lot. Pretty soon the roads are all glare ice. They look like they're just wet, but oh no... God got his zamboni out and created a few hundred square mile hockey rink just in time for the drive home. Cars are spinning off the road all over the place, the radio is reporting huge traffic jams and accidents on virtually every major road out of Madison. Children are screaming, pasty white commuters with white knuckles are finally getting home only to make it half way up the driveway and begin sliding backwards. My cat still wants to get outside, but what the fuck does she know, right?

That seriously had to be the most ridiculously inconvenient timing for rain in the history of rain. Thanks for nuthin'.

So, PJ, I guess you just had to share that wonderful experience by sending the rain on eastward to the rest of us, huh?

Thanks but no thanks. Speaking on behalf of the northeast-to-midatlantic region in general, we are sick and tired of your leftover weather.

By "works", do you mean activated by slippage, or by actually stopping the car?

I ask because mine activated, but was not particularly effective. Fortunately, I was going quite slowly to begin with and thus avoided having an accident.

Friday night was fun in front of the house. Car that was parked near the corner managed to get hit at least twice (may have been more, but I went to bed). First driver took off swerving down the road before anyone could get a plate. Second driver stopped to get his bumper and the neighbor made him leave his contact info (unfortunately the neighbor didn't check to make sure it was legitimate contact info).

Both, but I was going super slow. At that speed it did what it's advertised to do. Makes a funny noise though.

If you think you can override the laws of physics (like the guys in front of Francis's house) you're out of luck. Same with that skid-correction feature. People believe they can drive same as on dry pavement, and they wind up in the ditch.

You win some, you lose some.

I thank FSM for today's warm temperatures which made it easier to clear the ice off the driveway.

So: its only the second week in 2014, and temperatures have already spanned over 60 deg. Interesting.

Your prayers are not working. Is it because you are an awful sinner or there really isn't a god?

The lord has to thin the herd from time to time, call a few of his flock home.

If God is truly all-seeing, all-knowing, and all-powerful, then it follows that he is also all-perverse.

Explains a lot, doesn't it?

As the nuns would say at St. Monica's Elementary: God works in mysterious ways.

A little tip on ABS - remember it as
Always
Be
Steering

In other words, it's not necessarily going to stop you faster, but it will help you to continue to have control of the vehicle, allowing you to steer.

Just thought I would throw that in, for anyone who didn't know.

Shouldn't you always be steering anyway?

Not when I set the cruise control and take a cat nap.
