Lake Chain Impaired

Postby Ted » Sat Dec 14, 2013 10:21 am

Headlines in today's WSJ "DNR: Lake chain 'impaired". This issue with our lakes goes on and on. The article talks about "cooperative agreements" with farmers and such. Why not place a cease and desist on the farms that don't comply, and if they refuse, shut them down!!! To me this is like saying, "The Madison police are cracking down on speeders via a cooperative agreement with fast drivers"

Here's the article.

I knew there was going to be a meeting on it but didn't think it had happened already. Oh, wait. There IS a meeting happening Thursday which is probably when they'll make it official.

The entire Rock River basin, which includes the Yahara lakes, will also be listed

It's a start. Having the lakes and the watershed officially listed as impaired could carry more weight with the farmers. I'm sure there are some that have been using the "It ain't even listed as polluted yet, dammit!" defense.
