Thursday Night at the Fights

Postby you must be joking » Sun Sep 15, 2013 6:16 am

Once again there is another harbinger of things to come to Madison. I'm talking about the Thursday Night fight between some of the members of Madison Memorial and Madison West High Schools.
http://www.wxow.com/story/23429518/2013/09/13/200-people-congregate-in-high-school-parking-lot-27-officers-respond-to-the-scene-during-fight

According to the story by Channel 27 this fight on the field ended up breaking out in fights out in the parking lot involving 200+ people. This resulted in the City having to send 27 Police Officers to end the disturbance. Doing so stripped the City of most of the Police Officers in the central and south districts. According to the news story there were 4 people cited, but then were released. In another incident a Memorial during this time a girl was arrested for punching a Police Officer 3 times in the head while that Officer was attempting to stop some girls from smoking pot in the restroom.

How do you feel about this?

Does it make you proud to say you live in Madison?

If this is happening at a Thursday Night football game between two high schools in our community in front of onlookers then the possibility of being an innocent bystander that ends up involved in an altercation or becoming a victim of a crime is very real. No longer something that just happens to people of "some neighborhoods" where "those people live".

No, this is coming to your neighborhood, to your home, it is going to happen to you. It's just a matter of time. No longer a question of if, just when. But it will be soon. Those of you who live in in your 1/2 million to multi-million dollar homes or condos;downtown, in Maple Bluff, in Shorewood, or in Nakoma will also come to know firsthand about what's happening to Madison.

Madison has now joined cities like Detroit, Chicago and Milwaukee in becoming another city with 40+ years of liberal/progressive/socialist policies creating a cesspool that once was a fine community to live and work in.

Congratulations to those of you who have been a part of this transformation. Continuing to install more bike lanes and bike paths and building huge edifices downtown to your new Madison will result in little more than putting lipstick on a pig.

Bike paths cause fights? Hmmm...whowould'veknown?

I reckon that explains why there ain't any kids fightin' and brawlin' in other communities, 'cause they don't have as many bike lanes nor paths as this city has built in the last "40+ years". We better ban bikes (and the paths they ride on!) before someone gets really-REALLY hurt!!

penquin,

In saying that I was making the point that instead of dealing with the problems created by the liberal/progressive/socialist policies enacted by City government over the last 40+ years, City government is paying no attention to the problems they created.

How the hell does city policy cause fights at a football game. Dumb.

If bike paths & lanes have nothing to do with it, then why did you focus on 'em? Seriously....you brought 'em up so you must think they are connected somehow. If it has nothing at all to do with bikes, bike paths, nor bike lanes, then please give other specific changes you would've made in the last "40+ years" that would have saved our community from this horror you are now warning us about.

(For real, the lil' small town I went to High School at sure as heck wasn't ran by a "liberal/progressive/socialist" government, yet we still had a couple big brawls with one of the neighboring schools. From what I understand, it has been happening all over the country for at least the last few generations. But I reckon if you were homeschoooled (nttawwt, of course!) then you wouldn't have any frame of reference and thus beleive it is something unique to "liberal/progressive/socialist" folks.)

Reminds me of that riot at Breese Stevens field in August of '68. Must have been at least 200 people involved. Started on the field and moved to the streets.

I think there was two way traffic up on the square at the time. I'm pretty sure that that was the cause.

That's funny. That's the same thing they said in 1968!

So you're saying that we need more bluegrass festivals? Hmm...might be something to that, actually.

For real: You keep saying that city government was too focused on socialist-stuff and not focused enough on what they should have been focused on. So I'm asking ya: What exactly would you have focused on in the past 40+ years and how would your policies have prevented kids from brawling in the streets now?

As Nick said, fights after games have been going on for a long time. East vs LaFollette, West vs Memorial. Used to be a turf war at the McDonalds "owned" by the schools.

They should have called in the fire department with their hoses. Memorial has been a cesspool since it opened.

I'm a little bit confused. Which liberal/socialist policies are causing these fights? Perhaps the OP could give us a short list of non-liberal/socialist policies that we might enact to prevent such occurrences. And since you're so quick to point out some cities where liberal/socialist policies have destroyed the quality of life, perhaps you could point out some cities where conservative values have maintained it.

I am going to be sitting right here at my computer all day, breathlessly waiting for the OP's proposed solution to the problem he describes.

I mean, I can tell just by how he wrote it that he's fishing for something.

The characterization of Memorial as a cesspool needs to be challenged (though I'd agree with any negative assessment of the physical structure itself). I've had experience both by chance and through my partner's job with students who are really nice and learning that is extraordinary. Make sure to get some periodic exposure other than through local press in order to keep a sense of what's going on in institutions like this one.

High school students fighting after a game and ruining a liberal city/YMBJ picking a fight on on a liberal forum. Coincidence?

At least now we know what becomes of cantankerous high school students.

There were three individual issues:

- The on-field issues were caused by apparently a smart-ass player, and an opponent with a short fuse. Many of the players on these teams know each other and are friends, so I don't believe there is any particular ill will for most of the participants.

- There was a girl or girls smoking weed in a restroom. Police were called, and she opted to punch the arresting officer.

- Two middle school kids bumped into each other as they were exiting the game, and a fight started in the parking lot.

So, there wasn't really any connection between them other than the date. (unless there has been some sort of new info released. But in the spirit of this thread:
