Rhythm and Booms: Soglin's cynical play

Postby swimmingupstream » Fri Jul 19, 2013 3:43 pm

Rhythm and Booms was Madison's most diverse-both racially and economically-celebration of the year. It brought people from all walks of life together to celebrate the birth of our nation. It was probably the highest attended event held in central Wisconsin on an annual basis.

Paul Soglin actively supported killing this much loved gathering.

In order to inoculate himself less than two years out from his reelection bid he has tepidly proposed a replacement for Rhythm and Booms with the location being changed to setting off the fireworks from barges in the middle of Lake Monona.

My prediction-Soglin will not go to the mat to reinvent Rhythm and Booms as a large inclusive event. Instead, the proposal he announced on Wednesday will die in the Madison process labyrinth allowing him to point fingers at others and allowing him to deny that he killed this great multi-cultural celebration.

Ever been to the city's official fireworks, held on the 4th at Elvers Park?

Didn't think so.

Okay so is this two anti-Soglin Fireworks rants from swimmie or three?

Can't you just keep posting your rants to the same thread? What's the reason for creating so many threads for the same subject?

Seriously, don't start new threads about something that's already being discussed.

As announced on Wednesday, Soglin is trying to kill this one too.

Yes, but that wasn't my point. You claimed the Warner Park private, for-profit event was the most diverse. Do you think the new event, combining Warner and Elver, will be less so?

I realize that many here do not want any criticism of the small cabal of elite decisions makers that runs this city, but this post has a different focus than the first one from a couple of days ago. Also, is this forum really suffering from too much activity? Give me a break you phony whiners.

Do people here really take Soglin at his word that he thinks moving R & Bs from the north side to the downtown/near east side is doable? Do people here really think that Soglin is really so naive as to believe that he won't get opposition from these neighborhoods that ring Lake Monona?

I predict that nine months from now he will throw up his hands and say "look I tried!" While at the same time telling these neighborhood activists that he is taking serious their concerns and bending to their will.

Politically a win-win for the old political master.

A lot of people like the fireworks show, but a lot of people were tired of putting up with it at Warner Park. Maybe Soglin was, you know, taking their concerns into consideration?

You'll survive. You could sit up on your roof and shoot off bottle rockets next year and be just fine, if you think about it.

It is quite humorous how little substance many of you have to offer in response to my analysis. I promise to rejuvenate this thread a year from now and say my prediction was wrong if Soglin goes to the mat and makes sure this city wide event continues.

But I also promise to follow up a year from now if I am proven right.

Francis-
I know, I know, just be quiet and don't talk about it or any other thing that might offend Madison's "best and brightest."

Too much speech or minority view points are a bad thing in Madison and the Daily Page.

Lets now go back to our comfortable silence.

Bump.

Too many threads about your precious fireworks are a bad thing.
