I Got Mail! (Anyone else?)

Postby KidCapitol » Sat Oct 13, 2012 10:44 pm

Today I got election propaganda from Mitt Dummy.
It was addressed to The (My last name) Household.
1st of all, I am not the home owner. My partner is. Who is a female.
So why do they assume that I own the house?
2nd, how did they get my name and address? Could it be from the DMV or voter reg? I didn't think they gave out personal info to the democans or republicrats.

I haven't yet. I used to work for a telemarketing company that was owned by AB Data. AB was a database firm that collected names and contact info. I was basically told that these companies have info on most adults in the US. Chances are your info was purchased by the campaign from one of these database firms. I'm pretty sure the DMV and voter reg can't give out that info.

I don't know if this is still true, but in the case of DMV people have to specifically opt out. Not a lot of people know that.

State governments often sell (or make available because of freedom of information queries) data bases that include names, addresses and sometimes other identifying information.

Try entering some random request form using a misspelling or odd form of your own name. You'll be surprised how long it persists and how it propagates over time.
