So how do you even get a Wii?

Postby jjoyce » Mon Nov 26, 2007 11:30 pm

I played a friend's Wii a few months back and loved it. It's everything I want out of a game console, particularly one my kid would use. But how the hell do you score one? Do you have to be first in line at a Best Buy on a given date, known only to those who view some website at a specific time?

Best Buy puts theirs out on sundays to co-ordinate with their weekly ad.

Call Play'N'Trade games on University, Game Crazy on Gammon, or any of the EB/ Game stops in town and ask them when they get UPS/Fedex shipments in because you want to buy a wii. call around that time every day. when someone says they got it, go right then because they won't hold them.
this isn't the easiest method to follow, but is more or less guaranteed to work and will net you a console inside of a week.

or just watch craigslist and pay some bozo $300+ for one.

I paid $290 and drove to Watertown to get one this summer, via Craigslist; I'd take that again over standing in line for an hour at the crack of dawn for maybe the chance to pay $249 + tax.

Weekday afternoons seem to yield random wii presence at places like toys r us, target, wal mart, etc.

"Tens of thousands" of rain checks (let's say there are 5 tens of thousands).

Two days.

4,008 US stores.

That equals about two Wii rain checks per store, per day of promotion.

WOOOO!! EVERYTHING'S COMING UP MILHOUSE.

Damn Nintendo. Just make more for fuck's sake.

I stood in line at Best Buy for about two hours. They had 61 I was #58 in line. They at least handed out tickets. There were people who were waiting in line four hours, before store opening.

I was there on sunday at 8 or so to pick up the 8800 GT card. There were people arguing with the BB employees because they didn't see the line and just walked in and wanted to know why they couldn't get one. The clerk I spoke to said people who didn't get there at 5:30am or earlier didn't get one!

I was just at Shopko (by West Towne) last night,
and the announced over the loud speaker that they had just received a shipment. Maybe too late for you now, but you may want to call them.

They simply don't have the manufacturing capacity right now to meet the demand.

That article says they've ramped up from 1 mil a month to 1.8 mil a month. That might not be enough to meet the holiday need, but they should be set by Q1 of 2008.

I think it's brilliant, actually. The Wii is making the news and getting tons of free publicity (have you seen the file footage they're showing on CNN?) while the other consoles are stacked on shelves.
