I'm biased because Dave is a friend, but I think it holds up pretty well. It's all totally bizarre, which I really like. I could do without some of the synth and drum-computer stuff, but later on they wisely added real percussion (plus that tech was brand-new at the time).

Any band that can put "Malaria" and "This big hush" on the same side of a record is doing something right.

have you heard the live set on wmfu? www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/5274

(the reigning sound's live session starts at 2:17:00 on the real player if you want to skip ahead to the live session)

if your diggin the reigning sound and if you havn't allready got into 'em i'd suggest locating a copy of any of the Compulsive gamblers albums they are all really great and a little closer in style to the reigning sound than the oblivians. greg cartwright also has a really awesome solo lp too.

sorry if you allready know all of this, but i just get excited when other people dig good music. if you can't get the show on soulseek i can try to locate my copy somewhere in this black hole.

A friend's supposed to get me a copy of some Compulsive Gamblers ASAP. And thanks for hipping me to SoulSeek- I'm waiting to get that wmfu show right now. Suh-weet.

I seriously cannot believe how great this band is- if there's a better version of "Stormy Weather" I haven't heard it. And the cool thing is, every time I play Reigning Sound at the bar, someone invariably says "This is good. Who is this?" God bless Meffis.
