Domestic terrorism incident?

Postby kurt_w » Fri Feb 07, 2014 1:36 pm

Lots of interest in this story about an alleged attack by a team of snipers that tried to take down the electrical grid in California.

What does that remind me of? Oh, yeah -- this.

I wonder where Bob Owens's commenters were last April.

Wow. I didn't connect those two things even though I read both items, and the Metcalf power station is just north of where I live. I can easily believe that a bunch of right-wing crazies would do that around here. I saw some idiot in Gilroy out on the sidewalk in front of the supermarket with a table set up and an "IMPEACH OBAMA!" sign.

NPR covered the story on Feb. 6 with an emphasis on general threats to and security of the nationwide power grid, but not specifically politically-motivated attacks. ... nerability

When we talk about threats to security, stuff like this and cyberattacks on the banking system are at the top of my list. Terrorist-style attacks on the public are more dramatic and distracting, but taking down the power grid and banking system would be more disruptive to public order and public safety.

Decentralizing the distribution system is starting to look like a priority not just for off-the-grid types, but for general civil defense.

I heard the NPR story, they said "we don't think its terrorism". Huh? how is this not an act of terrorism?
