how common is your PIN?

Postby snoqueen » Wed Jul 31, 2013 9:32 pm

In keeping with my tendency to offer topics nobody else is interested in, here's an article about overly-guessable PIN numbers. The author shows with graphs and grid patterns how dopey most of us are in picking PINs.

There exist 10,000 possible four-digit PIN numbers, but statistically, one third of all codes can be guessed by trying just 61 distinct combinations. What are the commonest? Does a pattern show up with regard to PIN numbers that represent dates, repeating numbers, or patterns on a keypad?

You betcha, and here ya go:

Good stuff!

Working for me: When I got my first ATM card, the bank assigned me a 4-digit pin randomly.

Because I'm lazy: From that point forward, any PIN I was allowed to select became that original PIN.

I'm fucked if: Someone gets hold of my PIN and steals my wallet.

Dude is a consultant who get's paid to do this sort of analysis. If this drums up a new client or two, the time spent paid for itself.

ja, why can't they let people use the base-60 number system of sumeria for their pins?
