Have your eyes gone to shit yet?

Postby bdog » Thu May 02, 2013 7:44 am

Reading glasses have become a necessity for me the last year or so. But I haven't got in the habit of carrying them with me. That causes problems at times.

I was probably 42ish when I first started noticing the change and put it off to being tired.

How about the rest of you?

I wore glasses for nearsightedness starting in first grade. When I was 27 I had Lasik surgery and stopped wearing corrective lenses. Fifteen years later, so far so good.

I think I was good until nearly 45, then it went downhill FAST. The most irritating thing is that I can't read the text on the new iPod nano I bought. It's a complete POS for many other reasons, but they make the text about a millimeter high for the artist and album.

Needing reading glasses definitely made me feel old.

Nope. My eyes are fine. I'm a sixty year-old man trapped in the body of a twenty year-old.

Neither. I eschew all drugs and eat carrots only in moderation.

I suffered common nearsightedness from early teens, then developed keratoconus around age 30 and it's been downhill since.

Last year I had a cataract removed and expect to have one removed from the other eye sometime this year. Apparently, as just about every person I know has told me, I'm not old enough for cataracts. "What? At your age?!?" Maybe I have Meade's eyes.

Does anyone check out large print books from the library?

I haven't made that leap yet. I would feel guilty about it.

I'm 41 and it's just starting. I haven't had to resort to reading glasses yet. However, I need to turn on the lights to read the size of my stainless steel measuring cups. I had trouble reading the engraved serial number on an appliance. These are things that would have never been a problem a couple of years ago.

Reading glasses just seem like a pain. I will be one of those people who never has them when she needs them. I have enough trouble remembering my keys and phone. Has anyone tried the one contact thing? Or can you get bifocal contacts with no script on top?

I've been pretty lucky. I'm 60, and didn't start using reading glasses until about 3 years ago. Still on the lowest level of magnification. I usually don't worry about not having them when I need them (usually for menus at restaurants) because my wife has room in her purse for a pair. Or, squinting sometimes works.

Lemme know when you milktoasts are carrying two pair, one for the computer screen and one for reading, and you have an altoids tin of spare parts, and five or six pairs of mismatched nosepieces, temples, hinges, and endpieces laying around the house and a few in the car and you're stockpiling bifocal sunglasses and safety glasses.

Wimps.

I've been near sighted since 5th grade. Around 50 or menopausal time I got no-line tris. They help me read and do art work. I've known a lot of visually impaired folks, so I'm thankful for what I can see.

I think I actually lucked out getting cataracts at a youngish age. Bionic lenses in both eyes now and I can see without corrective lenses for the first time since 2nd grade.
Of course, the surgery wasn't all that fun and I overdid some lifting while moving too soon after said surgery which caused a detached retina, but it is all good now!
