Tumblr

Postby Stebben84 » Wed Mar 06, 2013 3:39 pm

So some of the youngins at work were sharing with me the virtues of Tumblr. I've only know a little bit about it so I started playing around. First off, I was just checking out other pages and I immediately got hooked. It is an amazing one stop shop for stuff on the interwebs from music to art, entertainment, news, you name it. It's like Facebook without all the stupid ass drama in peoples lives. At least I tend to stay away from those types of blogs on Tumblr. I don't know many people on there so I'm not really following friends posts.

Anyone else use Tumblr. Any pages on there that you would recommend?

Tumblr is great for quick and dirty websites or to give your meme a jumpstart.

That's what I like about it. You have sites like the one you posted, but then sites like The Onion, NPRmusic, Mother Jones, etc... update as well. Once you start following a site, you get updates for all these places without having to open up their main web pages. It was a genius concept.

It's me! I like Tumblr, though it's kind a timesuck for me so I try to resist it's siren song.

Things I like about Tumblr include:
* It's very friendly to visual content
* It's a great way to follow a lot of cool writers
* It's also a great way to discover new music

I mean, it's essentially not THAT different than RSS Feed or something, but way more fun. Let's see, some Tumblrs I follow and really like:

According to a guy I met who works at Tumblr, Madison has an inordinately high number of Tumblr users for a city of its size. Now, that can be attributed to the UW's presence, but a lot of other big college towns don't show up on his list.

Gainesville does.

Not sure if it's intentional, but your post sure does end on a chilling note.

Just checked it.

No animated porn gifs.

I expect more from my hard-earned tax dollars.
