Bizarre School Board stuff

Postby david cohen » Sun Feb 17, 2013 12:19 pm

Is this some type of preemptive strike? Another "endorsement-gate"? I guess it's a good sign there is both competition and enmity, once again, in school board elections. We did ask for that, after all!

I do wonder, though, exactly how "racial tensions" as a result of the failed Madison Prep proposal play into this specific race. I mean, both candidates are very well respected African American men, so is the insinuation that the tensions come from Madison's caucasian community to, in some nefarious way, influence the election?

I have not been to a Dane Dem function in about a year, but you never see African Americans at them.

Also, is Mike Basford still the chair of the Dems? Dean Loumos is Basford's boss. Was that disclosed during the meeting before the vote?

More like bizarre journalism than bizarre school board stuff. A supporter of one candidate gets to "wonder" about the motivations of all the supporters of another candidate and that wonderment sees "print" (or whatever it is they're doing over there these days...)?

Lame.

And unsurprising.

Nick, I guess you old crusty white guys have to stick together. After all, those are the people you know.

Not very progressive and incredibly lame and unsurprising.

Of all the local elections, school board seems to be the most clubby.

My question: Why does anyone care who the Dane Dems -- or any group -- endorse in these local races? There's a reason these are non-partisan elections and the farther away we get from that concept, the worse off we are.

Example: The Wisconsin Supreme Court.

JJ, the Dane Dems and other organizations act as gatekeepers to political power in Madison. They are also the conduits to campaign resources including cash.

Have you ever been to a Dane Dem meeting? There is rarely a black face in the crowd. Is it surprising that some in the African American community are questioning if they have a fair shot to be at the table in Madison?

I did talk to someone who was at last week's Dane Dems endorsement meeting. He believes that it was not disclosed to the membership that Dean Loumos is the party chair's employer. He also informed me that it was a close vote for a dual endorsement and that information could have shifted a few votes.

Does anyone want to place a bet on who the crusty old white "progressives" at the Capital Times will be endorsing?
