"You're not in Belgium any more"

Postby kurt_w » Tue Jan 15, 2013 1:51 pm

This is being reported as real, but I can't help expecting to learn that it's all a hoax:

The woman only wanted to go about 90 miles from her hometown of Hainault Erquelinnes, Belgium, to pick up a friend at the Brussels train station. Her GPS device sent her about 900 miles to the south before (during the second day of driving) she realized that something was amiss. [...]

[T]he driver, Sabine Moreau, stopped twice for gas, slept on the side of the road, and "even suffered a minor car accident" along the way. She told El Mundo that she wasn't paying attention.

"I was distracted, so I kept driving. I saw all kinds of traffic signs, first in French, then German and finally in Croatian, but I kept driving because I was distracted. Suddenly I appeared in Zagreb and I realized I wasn't in Belgium anymore."

If that's real, then she is way, waaaaaaaay too stupid to be driving a car.

And she probably handles roundabouts with alacrity.

From the Discovery.com article
Talk about distracted driving. It’s unclear if the GPS was wrong, or if the human programmed the GPS wrong. You be the judge.

I think anyone who get's two days into a 90 mile trip might want to rely a bit less on technology no mater where the screw up occurred.

In terms of mileage, that's equivalent to someone from Madison intending to drive over to Wisconsin Dells but ending up in Atlanta by mistake.
