it works security wonders and it still allows you to keep your windows open during the warmer, stuffy months. I will say that the only downside to using thorny plants is that you cutoff an entry point you could use if you ever lock yourself out of your home or apartment. I learned this the very, very hard and painful way when I had to climb through some spiky holly just to get back in
