Holy crap, I find myself sickened by the number of tents at the base. Amazing photo, though!

follow the South Col route up the Lhotse Face, you can make out Camp 3 and climbers near the camp....pretty fucking rad.

I missed that the first time I looked at this. Once I zoomed in more I got it. That is pretty ugly looking.

NY-based photographer Shinichi Maruyama created these lovely photographs using nearly 10,000 individual photographs of a nude dancer in motion.

His pièce de résistance, in fact, turns out to be a great mural of the valley he passed through as a POW in the last days of World War II. He described the place earlier to an old lover who suggested he call it “The Peaceable Kingdom.”

It's a busy place. Our household phrase for a frustratingly long line: what is this, the Hillary Step?

The Space Science and Engineering Center at UW Madison used to have a giant enlarged image from one of the Mars landers lining one of the walls (on the 3rd floor?) It was like 10-12 feet long, and done in anaglyphic stereo -- so you could stand there wearing those red/cyan glasses and see the Martian landscape stretching out before you in 3D. It felt like you were standing on Mars.

Skarbakka says that he utilizes special climbing gear and other rigging to achieve each shot, but the final images are truly convincing if somewhat ambiguous.

More photos from Australia (Tasmania, to be precise).

Artist and camouflage extraordinaire Liu Bolin just opened a new exhibition at Galerie Paris-Beijing in Paris featuring a number of new works that depict the artist perfectly hidden amongst urban backdrops. Remarkably the effect is achieved without the use of special effects or Photoshop, rather Bolin is painstakingly painted head-to-toe by a group of assistants using photographs of the area behind him as a guide.

I just love this gif. Gives me a lot better idea of the world's annual weather and plant growth. Click on the image and then expand the window to full screen to enlarge.
