NBC station releases weatherman David George

How can cultural elitists like ourselves put TV in the Culture category? Well, where the hell else is it going to fit?

NBC station releases weatherman David George

Postby Beaver » Wed Dec 05, 2012 10:06 pm

David George was my fav tv weatherman. I've been wondering why he hasn't been on tv lately so I yahoo'd him. His facebook page says his station didn't renew his contract and he couldn't find another job here, so he took a job in Anchorage. If you want send comments to the station:

Phone: 274-1515
Email: news@nbc15.com
News Director: Chris Gegg
General Manager: Bob Smith
Feedback: http://www.nbc15.com/feedback/misc/132615403.html

Here is David's fb page:

"August 30
I went to work this afternoon only to find out that I don't have a job there anymore.
After 30 years and 12 days of continuous employment as a Broadcast Meteorologist at six different TV stations, I guess I need to quickly look for something else.
I want to thank all of my fantastic coworkers, everyone that I've met in South Central and Southwest Wisconsin and all of the loyal viewers of WMTV since 1997 for your support.

September 28
I will be leaving South Central Wisconsin for KTUU, Channel 2 in Anchorage on Wednesday. It has been a tremendous pleasure to report so many good weather days and a wonderful honor to help you feel more at ease when severe weather threatened you or your family.

It was an awful and demoralizing end to my time at NBC15, but know that I'm thrilled about my upcoming adventure. I get to work at a place that wants me, respects me, appreciates my talents and is making every effort to treat me well.

If we every cross paths again, please call out my name or approach me so I can personally express gratitude for the time we've shared and for the support you've given. To my extended family members and dear friends around the country know that I'm happy and so thankful to have you in my life.

My heartfelt appreciation to all,
David"

I've been wondering what happened to him. I wonder if the station just decided to go cheap. I think George was very good at his job.

I got to know David through his work with the Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin, where he is just finishing up a term as President. They way the station did it showed no respect for his years of service - he came back from vacation, his boss called him in and told him that they weren't renewing his contract and that he had 10 minutes to clean out his desk. Guess they figured they could get some young dude fresh out of meteorology school who'd work cheaper...

Chuck Koch (their weekend guy) left there for greener pastures too.
Hope David George has success up in Alaska.

Guess they've decided not to bother pursuing the other stations and accept their role as 'also ran'? I usually only watch that station on Sunday nights, since Sunday Night Football usually runs until 10:30 and they're the only game in town then. Their production quality just seems so much lower than WKOW and WISC.

My bf was just asking about David George this morning - how odd.

So they dropped him and kept Shortino... a missed opportunity if you ask me. Oh well.

Remember all the grief over ch. 5 letting Elmer Childress go? He got his b.s. degree is folkiness. His amateur guesses resulting in the needless cancellations of more that one Concert on the Square... maybe that was a good thing.

Can't remember anything about channel 5. Maybe you could post a link for us.
