GOProud

Postby ilikebeans » Thu Aug 30, 2012 10:45 am

This article just gave me an aneurysm.

They’re gay, conservative and fearless. They’re GOProud, the Tea Party activists who put economics ahead of equality when it comes to same-sex marriage.

Wow. Just wow. More wow:

Hundreds of guests — including Grover Norquist, Roger Stone, Breitbart’s Dana Loesch, Tea Party Express chair Amy Kremer and former congressman Mark Foley — packed into Tampa’s Honey Pot nightclub, where dancers sported “Freedom is Fabulous” t-shirts and Romney buttons were the accessory du jour.

Ok, The Onion might as well just give up. Satire is dead.

On the other hand, now I finally have the answer to my eternal question of, what the fuck's the deal with the Log Cabin Republicans?

“I understand I won’t have equal rights. But I also want to be filthy rich, and I think the Republican ticket can get me there.”

As Paula Poundstone said when Bob Dole turned down Log Cabin's campaign contributions:
"Bob Dole recently turned down campaign contributions, and I must tell you that I totally support that action on his part - not because they were gay, but because they were stupid. What the hell is a gay Republican? 'We disapprove of our own lifestyle!' "- Paula Poundstone , Comic Relief 1996

If you consider the hypothesis that political parties are merely strategic alliances between people with widely varying priorities and goals, something as apparently contradictory as Gay Republicans isn't that hard to imagine. Voting Republican or supporting Republican candidates on some issues does not mean that one implicitly supports ALL Republican candidates or ALL of those candidates' policy viewpoints, let alone the official national platform. Some people (yes, even gay people) might prioritize economic freedoms above social freedoms. It's their choice to make.

True, but do you really think, as they do, that a Republican administration is going to allow you to acquire more wealth quicker. I'm pretty sure gay people are getting "filthy rich" under Obama's presidency.

Proof positive that selfish and stupid knows no sexual preference barriers.

OK, my head just blew up.

Now, who do you think would be invited to -- and show up at -- a Wisconsin invitation-only GOProud party at, say, Plan B?

“The Left wants you to believe that conservatives hate gay people. But we invited the leaders of the conservative moment and the Republican Party to a gay bar tonight— and they’re coming. This is the reality.”

Mark Foley was there? I'm shocked ...

Do you suppose he knew this event was going on, or was his presence just happenstance?
