Sno is right, and it's the most important part of the debate, IMHO.

The Romney camp is already conceding the first debate.

If it wasn't already clear that Mitt Romney and his allies are trying to lower expectations heading into next Wednesday's debate against President Obama in Denver, the campaign is now making it official.

In a memo about the debates distributed to campaign surrogates and provided to CNN on Thursday, longtime Romney adviser Beth Myers outlines a series of reasons why the president is likely to emerge as the winner of the first debate.

I laughed out loud watching the news last night, listening to conservatives talk about how Obama can't talk about his record, so all he'll be able to do is attack, attack, attack Romney.

As if the only thing thinner than Obama's record isn't Romney's plan for America.

Only crazy people think someone could "win" a debate against Obama. Well Bill Clinton might do it. Hillary couldn't.

What I will be looking for:

- Will Romney show any sign of having a human connection?

- Will Obama refrain from his making fun of Romney posture that he does in most campaign appearances? I don't see that as a positive thing to sway undecideds.

Yes. The 10% of the electorate that can still be swayed will look for two things: Out of touch mean-spiritedness in Romney and, in Obama: You middle-class private enterprisers, bitterly clinging to your rights to religion and bearing arms, didn't build America - the socialism of the New Deal and Great Society did.

Obama's steady increase in recent poll data? Romney built that.

Oh, good grief. They're not "conceding", they're rather transparently attempting to lower expectations, so that the next morning's headlines will be about Romney doing better than expected. The quote you cited makes exactly that point.

Romney is far enough behind that he needs something seen as big, dramatic, exciting to shake up the race. The debates are pretty much his last chance for that. To get a big enough boost out of the first debate, he's having to lower expectations further than usual. This expectations game is always amusing, but Romney is carrying it to new lengths.

Better watch out..where there's one there's another.

And another and another.

But time is running short.

It shouldn't take much to knock the thin-skinned narcissist off his game. He's never challenged and there won't be a TelePrompter in sight.

If Romney's got a set, it won't be difficult.
