Clint Eastwood

Postby Madcity Expat » Fri Aug 31, 2012 8:15 am

I like Clint Eastwood - great film maker - iconic actor. I don't want to see him embarrass himself or say something irritating.

I've had enough trouble avoiding the headlines of his appearance at the GOP Conventions last night. I guess I'll just have to stay away from the news/media entirely for a couple of days. I've been doing that more often recently...

At this point in his life and career, Eastwood is the PERFECT symbol for the GOP: had some good days, that time is not now and will not come again.

I just watched the whole speech. I can't even imagine what was going through Romney and Ryan's heads. If they thought that was ok then they're (we're) in big trouble.

He's no Joe Biden.

My favorite Twitter response last night was, "This is the perfect representation of the campaign: an old white man arguing with an imaginary Barack Obama."

True, Biden hasn't made any movies.

I think he was drunk. Look at his eyes. They're all glassy and squinty. Also, dude, get a fucking comb.

He was so bad, it was uncomfortable. I can't even bring myself to make fun it him. I did find his assertion that Hollywood was full of conservative types somewhat interesting.

I didn't realize Obama had such a potty mouth, however.

Uncomfortable it was. As I referenced last night I thought of Frank Sinatra being cut off at the Emmys after babbling on and on.

Someone said after seeing the speech that they thought that he might be secretly in the bag for Obama.

WFMU just played the cut, "I Talk to the Trees," sung by Clint Eastwood. (Paint Your Wagon)

I know. You mean when Obama told Romney and Eastwood to go bifurcate themselves, right?

In the era of predetermined nominees, we have to take our convention surprises where we can find them.

Here were some tabloid headlines I thought of:

UNFORGIVEN:

NEW ROMNEY
GETS AN
OLD RAMBLER

CLINT TO GOP:
MAKE MY BED

DIRTY HARRY
PLAYS
WITH STOOL
