Who are "the repos"?

Postby jjoyce » Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:48 am

Repo men? The guys who repossess cars and stuff?

If this is a schtick, it's a very time-consuming one.

One of the guys (Josh) from this show, http://www.spike.com/shows/repo-games used to live here and was a fellow member of Ford's Gym. Not sure if he was really a repo man here or if it's just a story for the show. Don't really care.

Since I generally don't read The Man from Fajardo's posts, this commentary was far too obscure on its face. But know that his abbreviation for "Democrats" is too precious to type more than once (and I already did it in the Abbrev. thread). He's an equal opportunity annoying abbreviator.

Obviously the abbrev. should be "the repus."

For one, a subset of the (equally, or perhaps more, annoying) "Sconnies".

I don't know if I see your point. Not all Sconnies are Repos and not all Repos are Sconnies, right?

Would you prefer "cheeseheads"? "Wisconsinites" is quite a mouthful. Although I suppose it's easier than "Wississippians".

"Repos" seems oddly appropriate, considering the defaults and foreclosures that result from market-based healthcare and unregulated financial markets.

Just a comment on the observation that one's proclivity to use one does not diminish one's desire to (apparently) critique the use of the other.

Oy vey, politics in the catch all too?

And here I thought we were really talking about repossessing stuff.

Try saying the R's and the D's, save a bunch of keystrokes, and nobody has a reason either to be insulted or to think they sound cool.

Drop the apostrophe, and you're good to go.

Depends on whose style sheet you follow. I think the NYTimes actually prefers the apostrophe.

Grammatically, I agree with you. Apostrophes are for possessives and contractions.

Now we can finally ask, why doesn't the media address the R's' propensity to lie at every opportunity?

Nah, looks too much like a railroad crossing.
