Lane's Bakery Closing?

Where are you eating and what do you think? What's opening, closing, succeeding, failing?

Nope. Since they set up their paywall, I don't go to madison.com any more. My wife heard it from a co-worker.

My vote for the best custard filled donuts in town.

The developer is trying to convince Lane's to come back when the new building is finished.

If Lane's closes I wonder where all the old timers will congregate?

I hope they do start up again. I ordered great cupcakes and other desserts from them a few times a year.

I'll get in trouble for this - but I think their Kringle is killer, the best I've ever tasted...way better than a popular one from Racine.

I agree about their kringle. I also like their bear claws.

Does anyone know if the new location in the Villager Shopping Center has opened yet? I know they were aiming for a May 1st opening.

The owner has been posting some updates on Facebook (usually in response to 'posts by others.' Last update (as of Friday) was that it looks like last August/early September before they'll reopen.

I have been twice now. The first time we went in around 10 am and the pickens were slim. We were there same time again today and they had eight Boston Creams left. It was busy and some young fellow stepped up and ordered two dozen. He took forever and three doughnuts, but we got ours. It was okay.

They still get their crowd and the elderly have moved too for coffee, paper and a donut. Not sure if there is any senior housing in the area so maybe it relies on the more mobile. It has a different feel with the glass walls. More urban than VFW. I view it more as a place I go to buy things and leave, versus a spot I would linger. Maybe that's why I am not in the club.

We had to park about a mile away. Not sure what is going on at that strip mall. Maybe the school. Saw a meter-reader Jeep with two LPR guns on each side going through the lot. I didn't know they did that here.
