Madison radio history: AOR?

Postby Kenneth Burns » Sat Feb 25, 2012 4:22 pm

Dear rock fans of a certain age: What AOR stations used to be on Madison's dial? When did the last one go off the air?

I seem to remember 92 FM ("Blue 92") was AOR in the late 1970s, but got Clear Channelized in the '80s. I could be wrong about that, though--it has been a while.

105.5 KNAC. I know, not Madison but I'll never forget the day they went off the air.

...and KMET too. I still have an old KMET coke mirror, complete with razor marks.

The AOR station I loved in my youth was Nashville's 103 KDF. Somewhere I still have my KDF Rock Card. You carried it in your wallet, and it entitled you to...rock?

Also not Madison, but anyone in Milwaukee in the 70's will remember WFMF in Menomonee Falls. I still have a couple of bumper stickers and several cassette tapes of the night they went off the air. I keep meaning to digitize those.

Did AOR evolve from free-form FM?

Wiki seems to think so.
