I thought Lothar was of the Hill People.

This Lothar was a theremin. He may still have been of the Hill People, but he required the Hand People to evoke his dulcet tones.

? and the Mysterians

A one-hit-wonder group fronted by Mr. Question Mark himself. Supposedly it was his legal name.

One hit, and many, many other excellent tunes. They still play once in a while, and ? is a character and a half.

Next time I need a band name, I'm calling you.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned one of my favorites: Me First and The Gimme Gimmes

In the 70s, an offshoot of Jefferson Airplane wanted to call itself Hot Shit, but their record label balked. Hot Tuna instead.

Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper- best psychobilly duo ever.
Hayseed Dixie- a group of country boys that actually make heavy metal tolerable. Both found on You Tube.

Don't forget their ostensible frontman, Richard Hell.

I remember hearing that from the time Hot Tuna appeared. At first HT played an acoustic set within Airplane performances, then they started putting out Hot Tuna albums ranging from acoustic blues to odd heavy metal, but consistently Tuna & Airplane members denied that this was the derivation of the name. It's even covered on Snopes. But the story fits so well I'm tempted to ignore the denials, not unlike my reaction to John Lennon's contention that LSD had nothing to do with the title Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds or the Ramones claiming that The KKK Took My Baby Away wasn't a Joey to Johnny shot.

Or the Violent Femmes' denial that Blister in the Sun has anything to do with pounding pud.
