Your foron name

Postby Henry Vilas » Mon Nov 28, 2011 12:39 pm

Some years past forons discussed how they chose their user names, but since then many new members have joined this board. While some public figures post under their real name, most community members do not. Mine is based on where I live. I sometimes try to guess what other names mean. For example I guess that bdog, based on his political stance, is a blue dog Democrat.

So how did you come up with your psuedonym?

Mine was my band's name at the time. I signed up at TGP to hype. Ironically I've been playing out continually ever since and haven't hyped in years.

Favorite Terry Pratchett character, but chosen on a whim.

Henry - nope. Some years past I explained in a similar thread (that I don't think exists anymore) how I came up with "bluethedog". It is after a dog named Blue who is now dead and gone, but not forgotten.

After the incident with Cortez where I disparaged his sister (and was subsequently banned) I became bdog. Planned progression is:

bluethedog -> bdog -> b -> starship

Gosh, what could possibly have prompted this thread?

A long time ago, when I was a starry-eyed young grad student, I spent a lot of time in the stacks at UW's Kurt F. Wendt engineering library. When I first signed up as a foron (back in July 2003 !?!?!?) those grad-student days were already long past, but for some obscure reason I kept the name.

IIRC the original Kurt Wendt was in nuclear engineering. I like to think that his spirit was speaking through me in this thread.

Not your whole name, though ... (if I recall correctly from a previous thread).

Stebben is a nickname that's lasted with me for about 15 years. Can't remember why I tacked 84 at the end of it. Seemed like a good number.

It's 2x 42 which is what you get when you multiply 6x8... according to some anyway.

It's from an incident in my past. And that's all I'm going to say about it.

And here I've been assuming it was a satanic reference. But then, now that I think about you've never offered to buy anyone's soul.

I thought it was 6 x 9 ... but I might be misremembering.

Mine combines the pronunciation of "super" (superintendent) from Eddie Murphy's short-lived cartoon The PJs with Soundgarden's 4th album title. For no reason.

Mine is short for "Ropin' Rodeo Nate" and comes from the 8 years I spent as a on-air country DJ at D99.3, based out of Dodgeville Wisconsin!
