That was an interesting article. However, while it mentioned a bill that Mark Pocan is working on that will address some of the issues facing exonerees, it did not mention a bill that has already been introduced, Assembly Bill 168, which addresses at least the compensation side of things. It raises the compensation for each year in prison to $15,000, and it eliminates the cap, so someone in Forest Shomberg's shoes would be eligible for $90,000 (which would be tax-free under the bill). I believe Wisconsin would still be at the low end of compensation among states that allow it at all, but it would be an improvement over the current limits.
